London Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers

Our Exhibition at Morley Gallery starts next Tuesday the 11th November until the 23rd November. We hope that you will come along to see some of the amazing work created by our Guild members.

Nearly a month to go before our exhibition at Morley Gallery. There will be demonstrations everyday from 2 - 4 from different Interest Groups. Once the dates have been firmed up we will add to our website, in case there is a particular Group you would like to know more about.

The Guild held a spinning workshop on Saturday where Breda Gibson taught us various techniques to add variety to our spinning such as slub yarn, boucle and several plying tecniques.

Ellie gave the Guild an amazing talk on the traditional Japanese paper crafts using washi to make fabric and thread.

Mary Crabb gave the London Guild of Weavers Spinners and Dyers a workshop on 3D Pod making. Such a great tutor and everyone on the course learnt so much.

The London Guild of Weavers Spinners and Dyers are having an Open Day at Burridge Gardens Community Centre SW11 1AR on Saturday October 12th 1.30 pm to 4.00 pm to demonstrate weaving, spinning and plant dyes. This will be free but we are also holding a Tapestry Workshop on Textures which is £20 per person with all materials being supplied and can be booked through Eventbrite.

Mario Sierra from Mourne Textiles in Newry, Co Down, N Ireland will be giving a Zoom talk to the London Guild of Weavers and Spinners on Saturday 13th April at 2.00 p.m. The talk is entitled Fibre to Fabric - Restoring our Textile Heritage in Northern Ireland. 'Out of the past flows the future' Gerd Hay-Edie. Mario will be giving an overview of Mourne Textiles and its origins, both the weaving mill and their textile designs. He will look at the use of traditional weaving techniques to manufacture their collection of blankets, cushion fabrics, scarves and rugs. He will celebrate and learn from their weaving heritage, keeping these skills alive for future generations. He will also be touching on their Crowd Funding project Fibre to Fabric reviving skills needed to operate these machines.
