If farms are for producing commodities, they require subsidies and harm the environment. If farms are about feeding humans, they require independent business models that put local communities needs first which in doing so creates the space for a mixed landscape of differing crops and habitats. All of which have wide reaching benefits for all, the farmer, the community and the wildlife. If we’re honest, the fact that this style of mono crop agriculture required a subsidy in the first place, meant it was never a good business model, or sustainable.
