MOST PASSENGERS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT PILOTS ACTUALLY KNOW
You’re sitting on a flight thinking it’s all pretty straightforward…
but behind the cockpit door, there’s a completely different reality.
1. Autopilot flies most of the journey (over 90%), but pilots are constantly monitoring, not “hands off.”
2. Cabin lights are dimmed before landing at night so your eyes adjust in case of evacuation, not for comfort.
3. Planes are struck by lightning regularly and are literally designed to absorb it safely.
4. They carry way more fuel than needed. Running out mid-air is extremely rare in normal operations.
5. Turbulence feels scary, but it has never brought down a modern passenger aircraft.
6. The brace position isn’t a myth, it’s based on real crash safety research.
7. Pilots eat different meals to reduce the already tiny risk of both being affected by food poisoning.
8. Cabin air is filtered every 2–3 minutes through HEPA systems and is often cleaner than most offices.
9. Crash data shows the rear of the aircraft has slightly better survival rates in some accidents.
10. Even with all engines lost, planes can still glide and land safely. Pilots train for it.
11. Airplane mode is not about stopping the plane’s systems, it’s mainly to prevent phone signal interference on the ground.
12. Oxygen masks only last about 15 minutes, just enough time for an emergency descent.
Most people fly without ever knowing this.

Qatar Airways just reported $1.94 billion in profit for the past year.
The airline carried 41.8 million passengers and moved more than 1.43 million tonnes of cargo worldwide. Pretty wild considering everything happening across the region lately.
But the bigger story is what comes next.
Qatar Airways is pushing ahead with major expansion after placing an order for up to 210 new Boeing aircraft. One of the biggest aircraft orders Boeing has ever received.
That means more flights, new routes, and an even bigger role for Doha as a global connecting hub for long haul travel.
A lot of airlines are slowing down right now. Qatar Airways is doing the opposite.
Somewhere over the ocean, the world gets quiet and the thoughts get loud
This is the part of flying they don’t show you when you book the ticket
Not the airport
Not the arrival
Just this moment in between

POV: you’re casually at the airport and an Airbus A350-900 silently rolls past like the final boss of aviation.
Window seat + engine spool + smooth rotation = happiness.
Can you guess what airport this is?
Just a random window seat moment… and then this Eva Air Boeing 787 Dreamliner departure happened. Goosebumps every time.
Would you still fly on a Boeing 737 MAX?
After everything that’s happened over the years, I’m curious how people feel about it today, would you board it without thinking twice?
