Dyslexia is a largely misunderstood SpLD. An interesting fact about dyslexia: Some people with dyslexia are very good readers, but have great difficulty with spelling and writing. Others may have dyslexic 'flare ups', where on somedays they struggle and on others they manage well. These people are referred to as 'stealth dyslexics' and are very often overlooked. Even so, their difficulties stem from the same underlying causes of those with classic dyslexia and would therefore benefit from the same intervention.

A phonetic approach to learning language provides children with the tools to decode words. Through this they develop in reading comprehension and fluency and are able to sound out unfamiliar words.

Orton Gillingham Phonics based reading - Part 1

In this course begin our lesson by working on phonemic awareness, sound/letter relationships, blending sounds to read words and identifying vowels.

In each lesson students are introduced to a new concept, we also work on a decodable text; on fluency and comprehension, reading and discussing the text together.

Lessons are 40 minutes and we meet once a week.
