🏫 What was your favourite subject at school?
Mine was Home Economics.
I loved the cooking and baking side of it, and I still do — anything practical, hands-on, and with a clear end result always appealed to me.
My sewing skills, on the other hand, were absolutely terrible… and I’m pleased to report they still are.
It’s one of the reasons I understand that students can be strong in some areas and find others more challenging — and that confidence grows when those challenges are broken down properly.

📘 Why Examiner Insight Matters in GCSE Maths
One of the biggest advantages of working with a GCSE Maths examiner is understanding how marks are awarded.
As someone who has taught GCSE Maths for many years and has marked exam papers, I help students to:
Present working clearly so it meets mark scheme requirements
Interpret command words accurately
Avoid common errors that lose marks
Apply methods correctly under exam conditions
This is particularly important for students:
Sitting the Higher paper aiming for Grade 7+
Sitting the Foundation paper working towards a Grade 4 or 5
I’m currently at capacity for 1:1 tuition, but I’ll shortly be offering small group GCSE Maths tuition, with groups kept small and carefully structured.
If you’re a parent of a Year 10 or Year 11 student and would like more information, please message me directly.

📘 Small Group GCSE Maths Tuition
I’ll shortly be offering small group GCSE Maths tuition, designed for students who benefit from structure, routine, and targeted exam preparation.
These sessions will focus on:
Higher paper students aiming for Grade 7+
Foundation paper students working towards a Grade 4 or Grade 5
As an experienced classroom teacher and Edexcel GCSE Maths examiner, my approach focuses on:
Exam technique and how to show working clearly
Understanding command words and what examiners are looking for
Avoiding common mistakes that cost easy marks
Building confidence under timed conditions
I’m currently at capacity for 1:1 tuition, so group sessions will be offered at a different rate, with numbers kept small to ensure each student is well supported.
If you’re a parent of a Year 10 or Year 11 student and would like more information, please message me directly.

Hi, I’m Laura 👋
Alongside my full-time role as a secondary school maths teacher, I also tutor GCSE Maths. I’ve been teaching in secondary education since 2008, teaching GCSE Maths since 2012, and I’ve also been an Edexcel GCSE Maths examiner since 2017.
That examiner experience means I focus not just on the maths, but on how marks are actually awarded, exam technique, and avoiding the common mistakes that cost students easy marks.
I’m currently at capacity for 1:1 tuition, but I will shortly be offering small group GCSE Maths tuition at a different rate, for students who benefit from a structured, supportive group environment.
👩🎓 Suitable for: • Students sitting the Higher paper aiming to secure the highest grade possible
• Students sitting the Foundation paper working towards a Grade 4 or 5
📩 If you’re a parent of a Year 10 or Year 11 student and would like more information, please feel free to message me directly

***Limited spaces available***
If you have a child in Year 11 at The Billericay School and they are completing their Year 11 Internal Assessments from Monday the 12th April to Friday the 23rd I have a few limited spaces for GCSE Maths past paper practise this weekend.
I work as a Lead Practitioner of Maths in a local Essex Secondary School with 12 years teaching experience, 6 years of which I have also worked as a highly successful tutor. I am an Associate Examiner for Pearson (Edexcel) and I have 3 years experience marking GCSE maths papers. Pearson have also recently hired me as a tutor and moving forward I will be involved in the National Tutoring Programme to help students catch up after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Please email me at [email protected] for more information. I will arrange for two non calculator papers to be dropped to the students this afternoon/evening. Students will need to complete these papers either tomorrow or on Saturday in advance of a live group lesson on Zoom on Sunday where I will share exam tips and tricks and go through the modelled answers with them.
