Year 9 discover the future at Catalyst Science Discovery Centre! πβοΈ
On Tuesday our Year 9 students enjoyed an exciting visit to the Catalyst Science Discovery Centre, where they explored the fascinating world of science, technology and innovation.
A highlight of the day was taking part in a hydrogen-powered cars workshop, where students learned about renewable energy, sustainable transport and the science behind hydrogen fuel technology. The hands-on session encouraged problem-solving, teamwork and scientific thinking while giving students a glimpse into technologies that could shape the future.
Students also had the opportunity to explore the museum's interactive exhibits, discovering the science behind chemistry, engineering, industry and everyday life through a range of engaging activities and displays.

Year 10 Students Celebrate Completion of Go for Growth Programme β¨π
We are delighted to celebrate our second cohort of Year 10 students who have successfully completed the Go for Growth mentoring programme, delivered by Greater Manchester Higher
Over six weeks, students worked with mentors who have recently experienced higher education, helping them to develop confidence, resilience, study skills and a positive growth mindset. The programme encouraged students to identify their strengths, set goals and explore future opportunities beyond the classroom.
To mark the end of the programme, students visited Manchester Metropolitan University, where they took part in a celebration event and received certificates recognising their achievement. One of the highlights of the day was a team challenge in which students designed their own society, developed creative ideas for funding and promotion, and confidently pitched their concepts to others.
Students also enjoyed a campus tour and visited the university's degree show, gaining an inspiring insight into higher education and the exciting opportunities available across a range of subjects and careers.
We are incredibly proud of the commitment, enthusiasm and maturity our students demonstrated throughout the programme. Opportunities like Go for Growth play a vital role in helping young people develop the confidence, skills and aspirations needed to succeed in their future education and careers.
A huge thank you to Greater Manchester Higher, the mentors and Manchester Metropolitan University for providing such a valuable and inspiring experience.

Celebrating the impact of Duke of Edinburgh volunteering ππ
We're proud to share two special recognitions linked to our Duke of Edinburgh Award programme.
One certificate celebrates an incredible 429 hours of volunteering completed by our students. These hours represent hundreds of acts of kindness, service and commitment to supporting others in our local community.
Volunteering is at the heart of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, helping young people develop confidence, empathy and a sense of social responsibility while making a genuine difference.
We are also delighted to celebrate a member of staff who has been recognised for their dedication and support of the Duke of Edinburgh programme. Behind every successful expedition, volunteering project and award achievement is a huge amount of time, encouragement and organisation, and we are incredibly grateful for the commitment shown to our students.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award continues to provide life-changing opportunities for young people to challenge themselves, develop new skills and give back to their communities. These certificates are a wonderful reminder of the positive impact the programme has both within school and beyond.

Year 10 scientists get inside the brain! π¬π§
Our Year 10 separate science students recently took part in one of the most fascinating practicals of the year - a brain dissection!
Students had the opportunity to examine a real brain up close, identifying key structures and exploring how different regions work together to control everything from movement and memory to emotions and decision-making. Seeing the anatomy first-hand brought their learning to life in a way that textbooks simply can't.
There was plenty of excitement, curiosity and a few surprised reactions as students investigated the complex organ that makes us who we are. The practical helped students develop their observational skills, deepen their understanding of the nervous system and gain an appreciation for the incredible complexity of the human body.
Experiences like this are what make science so memorable - turning abstract concepts into real-world discoveries and inspiring the next generation of doctors, neuroscientists and researchers.
A brilliant lesson full of curiosity, exploration and scientific thinking! π§ͺ

Duke of Edinburgh adventure in Edale! π§οΈπ₯Ύ
Our Duke of Edinburgh students recently headed to Edale for another fantastic expedition experience, and while the weather may not have been on their side, their determination certainly was!
Despite the rain, students showed incredible resilience, teamwork and positivity throughout the day. They navigated challenging terrain, supported one another and embraced every part of the adventure with enthusiasm and good humour.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is about so much more than walking. It helps young people develop confidence, independence, problem-solving skills and perseverance - qualities our students demonstrated in abundance.
We are incredibly proud of how they represented themselves and the school. These photos capture not just a walk in the countryside, but young people stepping outside their comfort zones, overcoming challenges and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Well done to everyone involved β rain or shine, you were amazing!
