Having people around you who truly understand the role — people who are a safe space for the trials, tribulations, worries and aspirations that come with being an owner/manager — is so important.

When I was deciding whether to transition from childminding into a nursery setting, so many people told me not to do it. They warned me against the risk, the pressure, the responsibility… and at times it really did make me question myself.

But there were a few people who quietly stood beside me and believed I could do it anyway. My friends at Willow Tree Preschool & Stamford Brook Preschool were those people.

We’re all neighbours, but more than that, we’re supporters and champions of one another. We’ve all walked a very similar path — from childminders to preschool/nursery owners — so there’s an understanding there that’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived it.

No competition.
No show.
Just genuine support, encouragement and wanting to see each other do well.

And in this role, that kind of community means everything 🤍

We added character blocks to our small world resources, with pictures of the children on. The children have been using these during play with some great imagination and role play. Here a child had selected his and a friends block, using an egg from the play food, to play football ⚽️
