Good luck to referee Anthony Taylor who is officiating the World Cup match between Colombia and Uzbekistan πŸ™Œ

The game is being played at Mexico’s iconic Estadio Azteca at an altitude of over 7,000 feet. Anthony has been preparing for these demanding conditions with pre-tournament training in the environmental chamber at Institute of Sport simulating heat, humidity, and altitude.

Through high-intensity sessions and targeted recovery work they’ve sharpened their physical output and mental sharpness for the challenge ahead.

Storytelling and community creativity were on full display at this year's Festival of Libraries, with Manchester Met students and alumni playing a key role in the event.

The festivities included:

- The screening of short films developed by young people through 'Storytelling & Moving Image', a programme developed by current student Baka Bah with support from four Filmmaking students.

- An evening with alumna and legendary Manchester musician DJ Paulette, exploring the influences she received from books and libraries.

- 'Inspired by Libraries', a discussion with alum and world-famous drag queen Divina de Campo about the magic and creativity of literature.

Check out incredible final year student art projects at the Degree Show!

This year's theme is 'More To Come', celebrating the exciting future ahead for our artists. Their work ranges from Fine Art and Textiles to Games Design and Filmmaking, and can be found across the campus.

The show is free to attend and is open to the public until Friday 19 June.

We're so proud that three of our community have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours for their outstanding contributions to education, the arts, and social justice. πŸ™Œ

Prof. Janet Lord Deputy Faculty PVC for Health and Education, has been awarded an OBE for services to education, while Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing Anjum Malik, has been awarded an MBE for services to British South Asian Arts. πŸ‘

In addition, Manchester Met law alumnus Professor Patrick Vernon OBE FrHistS has received a knighthood for his services to racial equality and social justice.

Students from Manchester Fashion Institute and Manchester School of Art collaborated with Turner Prize-nominated artist Delaine Le Bas to explore exploring identity, belonging and personal storytelling.

Inspired by Le Bas’ Whitworth exhibition Un-Fair-Ground, 12 students were invited to reflect on their own lived experiences and consider what they would say β€˜no’ to in their lives.
