This we are delighted to shine a spotlight on the BFI National Lottery Screen Heritage Fund for their generous support for Manchester Met’s North West Film Archive.
Their funding will support two exciting new projects: Amplifying Youth Voices in Screen Heritage, which empowers young people aged 11–25 to help shape and engage with the archive, and The Workers’ Film Association: A Community Digital Discovery Project, unlocking over four decades of working-class activism and social history from Hulme.
These initiatives will expand free public access to rare archive footage, amplify under represented voices, and ensure the North West’s filmed heritage is preserved by future generations.
A huge thank you to the BFI National Lottery Screen Heritage Fund for helping connect communities through screen heritage.

Our international alumni volunteers support the student experience in many ways – if they are based in the UK, they share their story and insights in person as well as online.
Esther Aluko, originally from Belgium and now living and working in the UK, has supported students through in-person talks, sharing her story online, and by being part of several other initiatives in her home faculty of Business & Law. Some of her advice to students considering their next steps, is below.

At Manchester Met, we’re proud to have a community of supporters whose generosity goes far beyond financial support. Many of our donors also give something equally valuable — their time.
Through mentoring, guest lectures and direct engagement with our scholarship recipients, they are helping students build confidence, broaden their horizons and realise their potential.
In today’s fast-paced world, choosing to volunteer time and expertise is a truly meaningful act of generosity. It reflects a shared commitment to creating opportunity and supporting the next generation to succeed.
As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2026, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has volunteered with Manchester Met over the past year. Your insight, encouragement and support are making a lasting difference to our students and their futures.
