My last piece for Alnmouth Arts Festival this weekend. With this stunning venue I had to have a boat scene.
You can find me at 19 Riverside Road. I will have art, rugs, cards and my looms with me.
I’ll have my looms set up to let you have a little play and I’ll be happy to chat all things tapestry 🩵

My boat scene is coming along. Having fun with silk reflections using hand dyed skills by Mirrix Looms
I’ll finish this little sunset scene tomorrow. Really enjoyed this piece for Alnmouth Arts Festival

My ‘Unmapped’ collection all framed and ready for next weekend Alnmouth Arts Festival These pieces were made up on the loom intuitively row by row. It’s so freeing to work like this.
The first image almost didn’t make the cut. It was a very good example of packing away a piece of art and revisiting it. I highly recommend doing this as it’s great to come back with fresh eyes. I know a lot of my students are perfectionists like myself and that can stop the fun sometimes.
Now to finish my boat scene and I’m all ready 🥳

Second boat is complete. I had to weave a boat scene for which is taking place on 20 and 21 June.
I’m now taking a few days off to join my daughter in the Lake District for her birthday tomorrow then it’s back to complete this colourful piece and make sure I’m all ready. Can’t wait 🩵

How to weave a boat. I find the simplest cartoons work the best. Just let your imagination play with reflections. I’m personally loving mixing silks with wools now for that impact.
The boat looks strange until you pack the weft of the sea on top and then it comes together and of course it helps to understand weft placement in these detailed works.
If you struggle with drawing there’s great apps like Procreate where you can upload a photo and then trace it. I’m going to cover this more on my next online lessons 🩵

A new work and this time with silks in the reflections.
It’s lovely to be back. I find a simple cartoon and working in my head is my best combination.
I add one strand of silk (by ) to two strands of my fine yarns at an 8 sett. It makes little areas ‘pop’.
This is going to be pure pastel happiness in readiness for in a couple of weeks 🌊

Getting ready for Alnmouth Arts Festival 🔆
I’ve been a little quiet on here recently while preparing to sell my home, but it felt so good to spend some time today back in the studio framing my first Unmapped tapestry ✨
Creating always feels like coming home and I’m excited to be getting ready for .
Next Saturday is my final workshop for a little while and there are a couple of spaces left if you’d like to join me and discover the calm, mindful process of tapestry weaving 🧵
