Did you know? Rugby Union has been played on campus since we began life as a college of Durham University ๐Ÿ‰ and today we have 5 men's and 3 women's teams competing in national leagues each year! ๐Ÿ™Œ

This summer, we're offering our alumni an exclusive opportunity to enjoy world-class rugby at Twickenham, all while supporting student rugby on campus.

Whether youโ€™re looking to relive your own university sporting days, reconnect with fellow alumni pitch-side, or simply looking for an unforgettable matchday experience, our ballot gives you the chance to be at the Six Nations in February 2027.

By entering the ballot, you not only have the chance to join the action at a discounted rate, but youโ€™ll also be directly supporting the rugby stars of tomorrow on campus. All donations to the ballot will go directly to sporting initiatives at Newcastle University. So thank you! ๐Ÿ’™

Happy 150th birthday to Newcastle's Swing Bridge! ๐ŸŽ‰

Designed by John Ure and engineer Philip Messent, and funded by industrialist Lord Armstrong, the Grade II listed hydraulic-powered structure was the largest swing bridge in the world when opened in 1876 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

It lies between the Tyne Bridge and High Level Bridge connecting the Newcastle and Gateshead river banks and today is powered by electrically-driven pumps.

Did you ever cross this iconic bridge in your student days? ๐Ÿ’ญ

๐Ÿฅณ 10 years of Newcastle University China Alumni Association ๐Ÿฅณ

2026 marks a landmark anniversary in our global alumni community as we celebrate a decade of our longest-standing and largest international network, the Newcastle University China Alumni Association (NUCAA).

To mark the occasion, Newcastle University hosted a celebratory gala dinner at the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai on Saturday 16 May, with around 120 guests in attendance. As well as Newcastle University graduates from across the region, we were joined by colleagues from the Department for Business and Trade in China, China-Britain Business Council and British Council.

Thank you to all who joined us and those who have made the past 10 years possible. Here's to the next 10! ๐Ÿฅ‚

Please join us in congratulating Newcastle University graduates Professor Hayley Fowler and Dr Nick Graham who have been elected as Fellows of the Royal Society ๐Ÿ‘ They've come a long way since first arriving on campus in the mid-1990s!

Today, Hayley is Professor of Climate Change Impacts on campus. She is an internationally recognised leader in hydroclimatic extremes and has transformed understanding of extreme rainfall and flood risk through pioneering work on convection-permitting climate models and the first global dataset of hourly rainfall extremes ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Now based at Lancaster University, Nick's research has focused on the ecosystem ecology of coral reefs, how they are connected to other ecosystems, how they respond to climate change, and are linked to human society ๐ŸŒŠ

They join over 90 outstanding researchers from across the world who have been elected this year to the Fellowship of the Royal Society, the UKโ€™s national academy of sciences.

We're so proud to have Hayley and Nick in our alumni community! ๐Ÿค—
