As well as everything else we did last week, we still had plenty of time for outside play and learning!

Happy Father's Day!

We hope you all enjoy the treats that the children made for you - a heart because they love you and a star because you're a superstar!

We thought we ought to head off to The Hook to follow the Wildflower Trail before it gets too hot for us next week. The trail is set up by the Friends of the Hook every year, and we love to go and follow the arrows, spot the signs and identify the plants. The butterfly bank is looking splendid, and although there isn't any water in the pond, it looks beautiful surrounded by Oxeye Daisies.

We spotted a lot of ladybirds and butterflies while we were on the trail, and our favourite plant by far was the bramble - a lot of the children are planning to go blackberry picking this summer!

The trail is up for the next couple of weeks and worth visiting. It starts by the entrance to The Hook at the bottom of Mona Road.

Rachael popped in this week to tell us all about her work as a GP. We got to have a go at using the tools of her job - stethoscope, oximeter and otoscope (we checked out some great ear wax!). We also had a go at bandaging some patients.

It was a lot of fun - thanks Rachael, you were great!

Come and join us as we take over the garden at 100 Holme Road.

Lots for all the family to do, live music and the best cakes at this year's Ladybay Open Gardens!

This week, Helen came in to talk to us about her job as a structural engineer. She showed us the things she has to wear to keep her safe when she is on a building site, and let us try things on.

She also talked about how she makes sure buildings are strong, and showed us how triangles are a very important shape. We had the magnetic tiles out all week so we could put what we learnt into practice.

Thanks Helen, you were fantastic!

We're protecting the number 11 bus!

Earlier this week, 22 pre-school children and their teachers went into town on the number 11 bus to visit Central Library. Without public transport, small early years settings like ours would never be able to go on trips like this outside of our local area.

Thank you to all the lovely Nottingham City Transport bus drivers and passengers who tolerated us, and to all at Nottingham Central Library for a fun-packed morning.

We are taking part in this year's Lady Bay Arts Community Project alongside . Children on opposite sides of the river are creating a paper chain - each link drawn and decorated by a different child. The completed chain will be on display at Lady Bay Arts Festival Weekend on the 16th & 17th of May.

We'll be on the school playground throughout the weekend, hosting a workshop so you can come and join in with the project too.

And that's not all - Lady Bay Arts is also working with a school on the other side of the river, who will be completing their chain in the run-up to the new bridge opening in June. Then they'll bring both chains together and join them to span the bridge.

"Every link is unique. Together they tell a bigger story."

Another Greek recipe from scratch - horiatiki or Greek salad.

The children chopped olives, feta, tomatoes, cucumber and red onion and mixed them together with olive oil and a little dried oregano - tasty!
