This Men’s Health Week, it’s time to change the perception of Nordic walking.
In the UK, especially, many men still think Nordic walking is only for the older generation.
It isn’t.
Nordic walking is a serious full-body workout used by athletes, fitness enthusiasts, outdoor lovers, and people looking for a highly effective low-impact way to train.
It works as an excellent cross-training activity alongside running, cycling, rowing, golf, strength training, and other sports. You build fitness, coordination, posture, mobility, and endurance while reducing joint impact.
And yes, there’s some pretty impressive kit involved too. Lightweight carbon fibre poles, technical equipment, and proper technique all play a part. Just ask our sponsors at Nordic Walk Store about the range of equipment available, especially their Ultra poles.
British Nordic Walking instructors teach using the internationally recognised INWA 10 Step Method™, so you get the full benefit from the very start.

Nordic walking is not a trend. It is one of the smartest ways to train.
Runner’s World UK breaks it down. Nordic walking turns a simple walk into a full-body workout. You increase heart rate, build strength, and improve endurance without the impact of running.

Using poles properly means:
• More muscles working with every step
• Higher calorie burn than regular walking
• Better posture and movement efficiency
• A session that feels easier, but delivers more
The difference comes down to technique.
At British Nordic Walking, every step is taught using the INWA 10 Step Method™, giving you structure, purpose, and results from the start.

If you are managing arthritis, staying active matters.
The challenge is finding something that supports your joints rather than putting more pressure on them
Healthline highlights Nordic walking as a low-impact way to keep moving while easing the load through the body.

With the right technique, the poles help distribute the effort more evenly, so you are not relying solely on your hips, knees, and ankles. Movement becomes more supported, posture improves, and walking feels more stable and controlled.
It gives you a way to stay active without the impact that often leads to setbacks.
That is where proper instruction comes in.
At British Nordic Walking, every step is taught using the INWA 10 Step Method™, so you move well, safely, and with purpose from the start.
If you want to keep moving without putting your joints under pressure, this is where it begins.

It’s not all about work.
We spent 4 fabulous days at dancing & singing to music, including The Specials, Fidget & the Twitchers, Jess Silk, Ferocious Dog, Black Water County and, my personal favourites, Utah Saints djing in the dance tent.

🏳️🌈 Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT)
Founded in 2004, IDAHOBIT aims to raise awareness of the violence and discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ people around the world - and to drive positive, lasting change. It’s now marked in more than 130 countries.
🌍 This day is a powerful reminder that there is still a long way to go until all LGBTQ+ people are truly safe, free from harm, and able to live openly and authentically.
Here in Nottingham, we stand proudly with our LGBTQ+ communities. Discrimination in any form has no place in our city.
Nottingham is - and always will be - a city for all.
