Out of every college in England, South Devon College is one of just four chosen to lead a brand-new national literacy programme. We couldn't be prouder. ๐
A huge well done to Laura Giles and Andrew Niering, who'll be spearheading this across colleges in the whole South West. This is a brilliant achievement and a real testament to the work happening here. ๐ค
So what does it mean in practice? Some of our students will get the chance to take part in Vocabulary Mastery; a 12-week programme designed around learning words that actually stick, building on them with regular practice, and putting them to use for real, not just on a worksheet.

Four South Devon College students are taking an exciting step into the game, signing to join Torquay Unitedโs new Elite Under-19 squad for the 2026/27 season. โฝ๐ค
Coby White, Fin Herbert, Jonah Shaw and Toby Hard are the first to progress through this growing pathway, combining their studies with the opportunity to train alongside the first-team at Plainmoor. โ๏ธ
Itโs a fantastic example of whatโs possible when education and opportunity come together, giving local students a clear route into the professional game.
Students interested in combining their studies with this professional pathway can register their interest online here: https://ow.ly/zIB550ZeybX ,or contact the College's Head of Football, Craig Hutcheson, directly at [email protected]

This Menโs Mental Health Week, letโs talk about what often goes unsaid ๐ฌ
Many men experience mental health challenges but feel unable to speak up. In UK research, 37% of men said they hide struggles from their partners, while 50% have faced mental health difficulties but fewer than half seek support.
You are not alone and support is available. Our library offers a range of wellbeing and self-help books to help you understand and manage your wellbeing. ๐
