Huge congratulations to our U18 tennis squad who have qualified for the LTA National Tennis Finals!

Anisha, Rosie, Bella and Lucy played four singles matches and two doubles between them against Bede's, winning 4-2 to secure their place.

They had beaten teams from Sevenoaks School and Newstead Wood School earlier in the competition.

Our Director of Sport, Miss Leggett described the girls' achievements as "fantastic" and praised their determination and teamwork.

Year 9 Textiles students saw for themselves how wool on a sheep’s back becomes a woolly jumper this morning, thanks to Wally parent and sheep owner Georgina Cuthbert. Georgina owns a few sheep after a trip to Ashford Market! She talked the class through the shearing process and cleaning the fleece, before demonstrating how to prepare the wool for spinning or shaping into felt, by carding the fibres.

We were delighted to welcome Dr Natalie Kenny, the founder and CEO of leading biotech company, BioGrad, to talk to the Senior School in Science Week.

Dr Kenny is truly inspiring and left a lasting impression on our students. As she spoke of her career in medicine and innovation, she pointed out the breadth of opportunities in these fields and the impact one individual can have through determination and vision, pointing out that “if it’s worth doing, it’s hard”.

Dr Kenny founded BioGrad in 2014 and it is now at the forefront of science and healthcare education, regenerative medicine, clinical research and biobanking.

Its innovations include initiatives such as Europe’s first women’s research tissue bank and internationally connected trials. BioGrad also donates millions of pounds’ worth of laboratory equipment and free training for graduates, to help shape the next generation of scientists.

Dr Kenny’s story deeply inspired many of our students, particularly those keen to pursue careers in science.

A huge thank you to our Music Department for leading our fabulous Singing Day last week.

Nearly 70 children from six visiting primary schools - and our own Junior School - came for a fun day of practising and performing “Matilda the Musical” by Tim Minchin. Well done to them for putting on such a slick performance for their parents at the end of the day, on limited rehearsal time.

Sound on for a snippet of their joyful singing! 👏😀🎶🎼🌟

Professor Robert Winston has opened our annual Science Week, to share some of his wisdom surrounding the ethics of fertility treatments. We welcomed students from six local schools to share the experience.

Among Professor Winston’s many achievements is his work on the screening of human embryos to prevent certain genetic diseases. In light of this, our Science Week theme this year is “CSI:Wally, the IVF Enigma”.

Students took part in a series of workshops, including a mock House of Lords debate on the motion: “This House wishes to ban genetic enhancement of the human species”. Professor Winston presided over this and addressed students afterwards, touching on issues such as the sanctity of human life, autonomy, justice and the principle of trying to do no harm.

As anyone who has seen any of his TV programmes will know, Professor Winston wears his knowledge lightly. He was charming, interested and very engaging throughout. We were honoured to host him and delighted to share this special event with other schools from Sevenoaks and beyond.

On Monday last week, the Junior School pupils enjoyed a wonderful day of music-making, culminating in a spectacular concert at Rochester Cathedral. IAPS schools from across the South East came together to form a massed choir, performing a wide-ranging programme featuring songs from movies, sea shanties, folk songs and a magnificent rendition of Handel’s Zadok the Priest (which you can hear a short clip of in this reel!).

What a privilege it was for them all to take part in such a spectacular event which we hope will remain a treasured memory for many years to come. Well done girls, you were a true credit to the School! 🎤🎵🎶
