At Discover Playdays, we are big believers in the power of play! 🌟
Play supports all areas of children's development and is a crucial part of helping children learn, grow, and thrive.
With the recent screen time guidance and around social media restrictions for under-16s, it has never been more important for us, as children's role models, to help guide them towards healthy habits and a balanced lifestyle.
Technology certainly has its place and can be a fantastic tool to support children's learning and development. At Discover Playdays Childminding, we use technology in a purposeful and limited way, with children having access for up to 20 minutes a day. This is usually before lunch, helping them to wind down while lunches are prepared and sleep routines are set up.
When using technology, it's important to think carefully about what children are accessing. At Discover Playdays, we use it for activities such as:
✨ Cosmic Kids Yoga
🎵 Playdough Disco
💃 Danny Go dancing and movement sessions
🎶 Music and singing activities
We rotate these activities regularly to keep them engaging and meaningful.
Technology can also be a valuable educational resource. If children show an interest in a particular topic, celebration, or event, we can use it to explore and extend their learning in a safe and age-appropriate way.
Our priority is always ensuring children have plenty of opportunities to play, explore, create, move, connect with others, and enjoy the world around them.
Less screen time, more play time, more learning, and more childhood. ❤️

Over the last few weeks, the children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about sports, staying active, and practising different ways to keep their bodies moving both indoors and outdoors. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and engagement!
As a great follow-on from this learning, we will now be focusing on keeping our bodies clean and looking after ourselves. We will be exploring the importance of personal hygiene and healthy habits as part of our daily routines.
To support this learning, we will be reintroducing tooth brushing within the setting. Children will brush their teeth each day at 2:45pm, helping them develop positive habits that support their health and wellbeing.
Thank you for your continued support!

Over the next few weeks we will be working hard on our fine motor skills.
Fine motor is all about hand strength and building muscles in our hands to become strong writers ready for tricky jobs and school readiness!
We can do so many different types of play and every day jobs that can help to build muscles such as washing their own hands, opening food items, helping to mix or chop when making dinner, dressing and un******ng and lots more!
