Our outreach work at a local school fayre offered a great opportunity to connect with the community and share more about our project — including speaking with a potential ESOL teacher 🙌

One powerful moment came from the children who took part in our quiz. Many believed that the UK hosts half of the world’s refugees (the highest option) and were surprised to learn that the figure is closer to 1%.

It was a stark reminder of how current narratives can shape perceptions from a young age — and just how important education and open conversations are. 💬

Keep Cool and Carry On, but take safety precausions.

Temperatures across Hampshire are expected to reach and exceed 35°C this week, with a Red Heat-Health Alert from the UK Health Security Agency in place from Wednesday to Thursday.

This is the highest level of alert and means the heat could have serious impacts on everyone’s health – not just those who are usually considered more vulnerable.

Please take care and follow some simple steps to stay safe:

🌡️ Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm where possible and stay in the shade.
🚰 Drink plenty of water and take it easy during the hottest part of the day.
👕 Wear light, loose clothing, a hat and sunscreen outdoors.
🏠 Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds in sunny rooms.
🤝 Check in on neighbours, friends and family – especially older people, young children and anyone with health conditions.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked car, even for a short time.

Thinking of cooling off in the water? Rivers, lakes and the sea can be dangerous, even for strong swimmers. Choose lifeguarded areas where possible, avoid alcohol and never swim alone.

Know the signs of heat illness:

⚠️ Heat exhaustion can cause dizziness, nausea and extreme thirst.
🚑 Heatstroke is an emergency. If someone becomes confused, stops sweating or has trouble breathing, call 999 immediately.

Hot weather may also affect travel, air quality and increase fire risk, so plan ahead and take extra care.

Our Culture Food event was a fantastic success! 🎉

The event was part of our course “ESOL for Volunteering and Community Action”, where learners worked together to plan and deliver a community project for a cause they chose. As part of this, they organised a buffet lunch to bring people together, celebrate different cultures, and raise funds for CLEAR.

It was wonderful to welcome our guests, share delicious food, and see such a strong sense of community. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we raised £156.10 for CLEAR 🙌

Well done to all our learners for their hard work and teamwork — you should be very proud 👏

The right to seek asylum isn't a privilege – it's a human right, enshrined in international law for 75 years.

The 1951 Refugee Convention affirmed that those forced to flee deserve protection, dignity and hope. That promise must be kept.

This , we stand with everyone who has had the courage to seek safety. 🌍

⚽🔥 What a start!

England kicked off their World Cup campaign in style with a thrilling 4–2 win over Croatia.

A dominant attacking display saw:
✅ Harry Kane bag a brace
✅ Jude Bellingham deliver a decisive moment
✅ Marcus Rashford seal it late

But beyond the goals, there’s a deeper story.

Each of these players comes from a migrant family background—just like many of the individuals and communities supported by CLEAR. 💛

Harry Kane, for example, is the son of an Irish migrant family. His father was born in County Galway before moving to London, and Kane went on to become England captain and one of the country's greatest footballers. His story demonstrates how migration enriches communities and contributes to success in sport.

This victory is about more than football. It’s a reminder of the power of diversity, resilience, and opportunity—and what can be achieved when talent is nurtured, welcomed, and supported.

At CLEAR, we see every day how people from migrant backgrounds strengthen our communities, bring valuable skills and experiences, and make lasting contributions to society.

We see you. We support you. We celebrate you. 🌍✨

🧡It's Refugee Week (15-21 June), a celebration of the contribution, creativity and resilience of people seeking safety.

🧡This year's theme is COURAGE. It takes enormous courage to leave your home, undertake a difficult journey, learn new languages and try and rebuild your life in a new country and culture.

🧡When someone faces war and persecution in their own country, and it's not safe to stay, these acts of courage become a daily necessity.

🧡Our clients and learners are courageous and resilient people. It's a huge privilege to support them through our Advice service and English classes.

🧡We also recognise the courage and commitment of our volunteers and staff, who support and advocate for refugees and people seeking sanctuary in our community.

🧡Refugee Week 2026 calls us to come together and share the courage to welcome people, to stand for what we believe in, and to celebrate culture and community.
