A huge congratulations to Level 2 Bricklaying apprentice, Rhyllan Taperek, who has been invited to the SkillBuild National Final in November this year.

Recently, Rhyllan competed in the SkillBuild Regional Qualifiers at Burnley College, finishing in first place.

However, this wasn't his only achievement as his incredible efforts saw him become one of the highest scoring competitors in his trade across all of the Regional Qualifiers.

He will compete at the Stadium MK in Milton Keynes later this year, and we've got our fingers crossed that he will take home the trophy.

Our Level 3 Health and Social Care students were invited to Keele University for a fun-filled taster day of their Health department.

On offer were a variety of interactive sessions which covered a wide range of health areas, including CPR dummies, therapeutic listening, as well as ambulance training, and trauma kits.

This was also a fantastic opportunity for our learners to get a tour of the facilities, as well as gain valuable knowledge for their personal statements.

Thank you to Keele University for having us.

Recently, our learners competed at the home of England's national teams, St. George's Park, where they faced off in a national football tournament against colleges from all over the country, hosted by the Association of Colleges.

Not only did they show off their skills on the national stage, but they truly wowed on the pitch, with some outstanding results, including a 4-1 win, and a truly staggering 8-0 win.

We even topped Group E, winning all of our games, and getting a huge positive goal difference, showcasing the level of talent on display.

Well done all - a fantastic achievement.

And finally, our Student of the Year for 2025/26 is.... Aaron Mollart!

Aaron is an outstanding student whose dedication, maturity, and drive set him apart. Joining the T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning with no prior construction background, he worked tirelessly to excel—quickly rising to the top of his class and now predicted a distinction in his occupational specialism.

A highly motivated practical learner, Aaron consistently goes above expectations. His excellent attendance, strong work ethic, and proactive engagement with employers demonstrate his commitment to both academic and professional growth.

As a Student Governor and ambassador at college events, he represents his peers with confidence and professionalism. His passion for the regeneration of Staffordshire and his ambition to build a company that prioritises quality and community show a young person already thinking beyond himself and towards meaningful regional impact.

Aaron’s resilience, leadership, and genuine enthusiasm for the construction industry make him a truly exceptional learner and a deserving winner of Student of the Year.

Congratulations Aaron!

This year's Apprentice of the Year award goes to.... Anisa Ali!

Anisa is an exceptional apprentice whose determination and resilience truly set her apart. Early in her programme, she faced significant challenges with an employer who could not provide the support she needed.

Instead of allowing this to derail her ambitions, Anisa made the courageous decision to change employers—putting her future as a motor vehicle technician first.

Since taking that step, she has flourished. With 100% attendance, rapidly growing confidence, and outstanding feedback from her tutors, Anisa has shown remarkable progress. Her new employer praises her adaptability, strong work ethic, and willingness to take on any task with enthusiasm and professionalism.

She is a shining example of what can be achieved through perseverance and belief in your own potential.

Congratulations Anisa!

Our Adult Learner of the Year award goes to... Robert Higginbotham!

As an adult learner balancing academic study with parenthood, Robert exemplifies dedication and resilience.

Robert is an outstanding student whose academic excellence and leadership set a new benchmark for the department. He is a shining example of successful reskilling.

He has achieved a 1st class grade in every assignment, and his technical ability—particularly within Unreal Engine—is already at professional industry standard. His work consistently surpasses expectations, demonstrating a level of mastery rarely seen at this stage of study.

Beyond his individual performance, Robert has become the natural leader of his cohort. He has helped establish a strong community of practice, supporting peers, sharing expertise, and raising the standard of the entire group. In team projects, he leads with professionalism, clarity, and maturity, embodying the collaborative spirit of the programme.

Congratulations Robert!
