It's Learning Disability Week 2026!

This year's theme is "Do you see me?" which focuses on ensuring that people with a learning disability are seen, heard, included, and valued in all aspects of life.

Young people with learning disabilities are 6 times more likely to have mental health problems. We, as a society, must support them inside and outside of education, the best we can. Whether that's a small interaction of kindness or the right support in education

People with a learning disability want to be seen, heard and valued!

We are incredibly proud of this young learner's progress after just 4 weeks of working with one of our specialist tutors.

At Specialist SEND Group, we carefully match our tutors with each learner to ensure a positive relationship can be built from the very beginning. When trust, consistency, and the right support are in place, young people are given the opportunity to rebuild confidence and thrive in their education.

The difference between these two pieces of work demonstrates the impact that tailored, one-to-one support can have in a short period of time.

Every young person deserves access to an education that meets their individual needs, wherever they are on their learning journey.

If you're a Local Authority, school, or professional looking for specialist tutoring support for young people who are currently out of education or require alternative provision, we'd be happy to discuss how we can help.

What’s the biggest challenge in SEND right now?

1. Staffing shortages
2. Behaviour support
3. Lack of funding
4. Training gaps

Photos from SEND's post 21/05/2026

5 signs a young person's behaviour is linked to unmet needs

It’s understandable to want to correct disruptive behaviour, but unless we address the underlying cause, the same behaviour is most likely to continue.

Rather than viewing it as a lesson disruption, we can reframe it by focusing on the need behind the behaviour to help support the young person and get to the root cause!

Creating a safe classroom environment and being consistent in small check-ins can help build up trust in relationships
