Process art is valued at Monkey Puzzle Welling. The child-led, open -ended activity prioritises the process over the end product which allows the children to express themselves creatively , exploring materials and making choices.

Today, The Mini Pre-School children at Monkey Puzzle Welling made a scrumptious Lemon Drizzle Cake. The children discussed what a lemon looked, and smelt like, noting its shiny yellow peel and oval shape. The children voiced their ideas whether it would be sweet or sour and discussed their favourite fruits. The children then looked at the inside of a lemon and wondered what would happen if they planted the pips.
The Early Years Educator gave the children simple hygiene instructions which they eagerly followed. The children then took it in turns to weigh and measure the ingredients, using the spoon to mix it altogether before carefully pouring it in the tray ready to be baked.
This delightful hands-on activity introduces the children to life skills as well as developing early mathematics whilst strengthening hands and wrists in preparation for early writing skills

Today the children at Monkey Puzzle Welling had a surprise visit from our local police officers.
The children were very excited to meet the officers and eagerly tried on the helmets and jackets. The children were able to identify some of the items that the officers had on their belts such as handcuffs and walkie-talkies.
The children then headed outside to look at the police van, the children took it in turns to climb inside and then were given the opportunity to press the button which switched on the lights and sirens. The children then explained to the police officers what number to ring in an emergency and who you might be able to contact.
This fantastic visit builds trust, supports the children’s knowledge of what to do in an emergency and who are safe adults if they become lost.
We would like to thank the Metropolitan Police for taking time out of their day to visit the children.
