Grasping, holding and manipulating objects all comes with manual dexterity. ππ€π
Here are some key milestones to test out at home with your baby :-)
6 weeks - gripping small rattles
4 months β reaching out, grasping, holding and waving arms about
6 months β passing from hand to hand (cross body movements are a huge milestone)
7/8 months - manipulate an object, turning over and investigating further
9 months β pincer grip forms with thumb and forefinger (vital for reading & writing skills later in life)
These skills become refined over time. Plenty of practice makes perfect!
The Baby Cloud Bexley - Baby Classes
Baby classes incorporating sensory, massage & yoga. Expertly designed & delivered from birth.
Top Tip!!
In our Sensory Academy bundles we have many items that aren't necessarily designed for babies but can do wonders for their development, especially because they aren't something they would normally come across in their little world.
For example, The pom pom helps visual πdevelopment in many ways. It is a complex object with many layers and strands, it is reflective and it is a bright colour. These are all things that will catch a babyβs interest.
Keep movements slow at the start and allow your baby to track and follow to all 4 corners of their field of vision. As baby gets older you can challenge them more.
Did you notice your little ones eyes follow the pom pom, or older babies did they try to grab the strands?

Notice your baby during playβ¦ ππΆ
Look at their arms and legs, hands and feet.
Are they moving, reaching out, reacting in an excited way?
Is their gaze facing you or the play item?
Are they cooing or smiling?
All great signs baby is ready to play!
What toys or items from your Sensory Academy Kit does your little one get excited to play with?

& Relax Baby......... π
Need a quick calming technique - Hold your baby's feet, placing your thumb on the underside, just below the balls of the feet, in line with the middle toe. This is a press for calm spot, placing a gentle pressure here can connect with various systems within the body helping them to relax.
Try it on yourself! Seeeeee alllll caaaaaaaalm!

Safe Play is Fun Play!
We hope you and your little explorers are having fun with playtime using your Sensory Academy Bundles at home and in class! π
Please take a moment to read through a few important reminders:
π« Do not offer non-baby safe kit items as play things:
- Non-baby safe items: Always follow our guidance to ensure babies are only given appropriate items from the kit to explore. Some items are UNSAFE for babies to handle or mouth. Some items are meant for adult use only.
- Battery safety: Pay extra attention to items with batteries, these are NOT SUITABLE for baby.
- Foil Blanket safety: please check the foil blanket is fully intact prior to EVERY use. Should the foil blanket form a tear, dispose of all parts immediately. This kit item is NOT SUITABLE FOR MOUTHING & for SUPERVISED PLAY ONLY, the foil blanket must NEVER be allowed to cover babyβs face.
πΆ Because babyβs safety is our priority:
π Inspect regularly: Take a moment to check Sensory Academy kit items for wear and tear. If it's looking tired, throw it away. Check child safe lids are screwed on tight before sharing with baby and that batteries arenβt at risk of coming loose.
π’ Spread the word: Feel free to remind other parents too. We're all in this parenting adventure together!
π Keep an eye out in class β it is easy to get distracted and for baby to pick up unused kit items. It can only take a second for something unsafe to fall into little hands.
π€ Ensure baby cannot access their Sensory Academy Bundle without supervision, in the car, out and about or at home.
π Thanks for keeping playtime safe and happy! Your dedication to the safety and happiness of our little ones is truly appreciated. Here's to many more giggles and joyous moments during playtime at home and in class! πβ
