Today in Buttercups we were looking through our recipe books, to see what we could create, using resources from the home corner and play dough station.

Buttercups are busy practicing their cutting skills this afternoon. Lots of different colour scissors to choose from and sitting sensibly on the floor. All helping to develop those small motor skills ready for handwriting later on. ✂️🗒️🖍️🖌️🤗💛

Yesterday tea club was held in Buttercups and I think I can say Daisies children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the room and resources. 🧑‍🍳🧄🪒
I think the dressing up baskets and kitchen tools were a firm favourite. 🧜🏾‍♀️
And who doesn’t enjoy a little turn on the Buttercups stage. 🎶🎤🎵🎷🥁🎸🎵

Buttercups have been out in the garden collecting flowers, chives and bark to use in the mud kitchen.
We are so fortunate to have these wonderful natural resources on our doorstep, enabling the children to experience nature, a change of season and to be able to choose and transport their own resources to enhance their play. 🌸🌼🌺🪻💛

Friday was all about sand in Buttercups. Lots of pouring, scooping, measuring, moulding and manipulating to support their ideas and play. They sand travelled far and wide as the children transported it around the room in pots, bowls and scoops. They watched the dry sand transform as they added water to it, enabling them to sculpt and create structures and shapes.
A wonderful afternoon of sand play and the children have said they want to do it again!!

📚✨ Welcome to our new Book Nook ✨📚

A calm and cosy space designed with purpose

Here, children can enjoy:
📖 Small group story sessions
🧩 Focused activities and learning experiences
🌿 Sensory regulation and quiet moments
💭 Opportunities to connect, communicate and unwind

We’ve created this special room to encourage a love of books, support emotional wellbeing, and provide a peaceful retreat within our busy nursery day.

Sometimes the most meaningful learning happens in the quietest spaces.

From cardboard to car wash magic 🚗🫧. the children have been spending lots of time role-playing with the vehicles. So …….of course this giant box was perfect for a garage, which quickly turned into a car wash

Teamwork, fine motor skills, problem solving, and absolutely perfect learning in action.

We created sand play on a larger scale this week in Buttercups giving the children the opportunity to experiment and explore pouring, scooping, moulding and mixing the sand with lots of loose parts and resources from around the room. Some created a dinosaur slide, some added pipes from the construction area, some just enjoyed watching the sand slide slowly down the long pipes.
It was a wonder opportunity for the children to use their fine and gross motor skills, critical thinking, experimenting with maths and science. Not forgetting helping, supporting, waiting and turn taking while engaging with their peers.
They asked if they could “do the sand again?” and of course we said yes.

Our wonderful art wall was very busy today in Buttercups, where the children were using the small motor skills to mark make with thin brushes and small palettes. They all had their own unique way to hold their palette and brush, while creating some wonderful pieces of art. So very proud of our budding artists. 🖍️🖌️🎨🫟🧑🏼‍🎨

His favourite place to visit is The Tower of London. He recreated it today from blocks and his memory, talking me through every little opening and pathway. Even creating “The big, big garden for everyone”.
I was so proud of his concentration, his effort and his belief in his own skills and vision. I took photographs of his work and we printed them together so he could show Mummy his wonderful achievement.
So very proud of my little Buttercups Crew 💛
