Applying Knowledge for Community Transformation
As the 35 newly trained traditional leaders from the Otumfuo Centre for Traditional Leadership (OCTL) at UPSA return to their communities, the real work begins.
The knowledge gained in strategic leadership, conflict resolution, land administration, and community development is expected to drive positive change across traditional areas.
Director of OCTL, Dr. Gerald Nyanyofio, noted that the programme equips participants with practical tools to respond to contemporary challenges facing the chieftaincy institution.
Paramount Chief of Akwamu Adumasa, Nana Ansah Quao IV, urged the graduates to uphold the timeless values of integrity, fairness, accountability, and service to their people.

The Role of Traditional Authorities in Modern Governance
During the recent graduation of the Otumfuo Centre for Traditional Leadership (OCTL) at UPSA, distinguished speakers emphasised the critical place of chieftaincy in Ghana’s governance architecture.
Former Attorney-General, Mr. Joe Ghartey, called for greater inclusion of chiefs and queen mothers in local governance. He proposed their direct representation at municipal and district assembly levels to strengthen community participation and ease pressure on the judiciary.
Pro Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor Emmanuel Selase Asamoah, reaffirmed the University’s dedication to capacity-building for traditional leaders, describing it as vital for sustaining the chieftaincy institution and enhancing its role in peacebuilding and community transformation.
Special Guest of Honour, Nii Ahene Nunoo III (Paramount Chief of Abola Traditional Area), reminded graduates that “leadership is not a title to be worn, but a responsibility to discharge with trust and honour.”
The 17th edition of this flagship programme continues to bridge customary leadership with modern governance practices.
