Book Launch Summary: El laberinto patriarcal de las violencias:
antes y durante la pandemia
Desde perspectivas feministas y de género

This virtual event presented a feminist analysis of patriarchal violence before and during the pandemic. Scholars from Mexico, Ghana, and Equatorial Guinea discussed the book's contributions to gender studies, highlighting intersections of patriarchy, coloniality, and resistance in Latin America and Africa. The session facilitated cross-regional dialogue and concluded with an open Q&A.

The IBERO-American Cuba Film Festival was held on Thursday, 27th November 2025 by the Centre for Latin American Studues at the Reginald Amonoo Building , University of Ghana. The program brought together students, faculty members, diplomats, and film enthusiasts to celebrate Cuban cinema and Ibero-American culture.

The event commenced at 4:00 p.m. with the arrival of guests. This was followed by an activity of trivia games and a Cuban themed dress contest. The formal session began at 5:30 p.m. with opening remarks by the Cuban Ambassador His Excellency Julio Enrique Pujol Torres, who emphasized the power of film in fostering cultural understanding and the role of cinema in strengthening Cuba–Ghana relations within the broader Ibero-American community.

Following the remarks, participants engaged in an interactive trivia game segment based on Cuban history, culture, music, and film. The activity attracted strong participation from students and helped create a lively and engaging atmosphere.

The main feature presentation was a Cuban film addressing themes of resilience and social transformation. The screening explored historical narratives and contemporary life in Cuba, prompting thoughtful reflection from the audience. After the movie, a brief discussion session was held, during which students and faculty reflected on shared post-colonial experiences and cultural connections between Cuba and Ghana.

The program concluded at 7:00 p.m. with closing remarks from the organizers, who expressed appreciation to the Embassy of Cuba and all participants for making the festival a success.

The program brought together students, faculty members, diplomats, and film enthusiasts to celebrate Brazilian cinema and Ibero-American culture.

The UG Centre for Latin American Studies (CLAS), in collaboration with the Embassy of Peru in Ghana, brought literature to life on Thursday, 7th August 2025, with a seminar titled “Words Across Worlds: A Tribute to Mario Vargas Llosa” at Casa Hispánica, University of Ghana.
H.E. Liliana Gómez de Weston, Ambassador of Peru to Ghana, opened the event with inspiring remarks that set the tone for an afternoon of cultural reflection. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Jonathan Quevedo Tello, Head of Chancery and Consular Section of the Embassy of Peru, who explored the enduring influence of Vargas Llosa’s work. Guided by moderator Mrs. Josephine Ofori, the discussion highlighted how literature transcends borders and fosters dialogue across cultures.
The seminar drew a diverse audience of students, scholars, and diplomats, reaffirming CLAS’s mission to serve as a hub for cultural exchange and its commitment to deepening Latin American–African connections.
