That powerful statement from Dr. Jeff Bassay was one of the standout insights at the recently concluded CIHRM Conference 2026.

As organisations race to embrace digital transformation, many leaders mistakenly believe technology alone can solve operational inefficiencies.

Dr. Bassay challenged this thinking, emphasising that digital tools cannot compensate for broken processes, unclear structures, weak leadership, or dysfunctional organisational cultures.

Before an organization can successfully digitize, it must first establish order, clarity, and discipline. Automating a flawed process simply accelerates inefficiency. Digitizing confusion only creates faster confusion.

His message served as a timely reminder to HR professionals, business executives, and organizational leaders that true transformation begins with strategy, governance, and people. Technology should enable excellence, not attempt to replace it.

Over the two-day conference, Dr. Bassay's keynote contribution reinforced a critical leadership lesson: sustainable digital transformation requires organizations to first fix what is broken, align people around a common vision, and build systems that are fit for purpose.

Today officially commenced the 10th cohort of our flagship Certified Strategy Professional (CSP) programme, marking another significant milestone in the development of strategic leaders and professionals across industries.
