"I AM AGATOWE! HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT ME?"

Agatowe (Kaolin) popularly known in local parlance as "ayelo" is a type of clay deposit found at Anfoega in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region.

This exhibition explores the "Agatowe" industry highlighting the dynamics in processing, tools used and it's value. The exhibition also seeks to create awareness and call for support to promote the industry.

On the 7th of September 2022, the School of Arts (University of Ghana) in collaboration with the Museum of Archaeology (Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, UG) launched the Salvage Archaeology and Marine Drive Heritage of Osu Exhibition at the forecourt of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies.

The exhibition features material remains obtained from a salvage archaeological work conducted near the Christianborg Castle in Osu between 20018 and 2021. The Salvage work was conducted due to the ongoing Marine Drive Investment Development Construction Project.

The material retrieved from the excavation revealed evidences of the Transatlantic Slave Trade as well as colonial and post-colonial exchanges that occurred on the Osu beachfront during the 15th century till now.

In attendance were the Dean (School of Arts), Head of Department (Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies), School Administrator (School of Arts), staff and faculty members of the Department and other distinguished guests.

The exhibition is opened until October 30th,2022.

Grade three students of the American International School visited the Museum of Archaeology as part of their learning goals for the semester, to experience an educational field trip to learn about fossil remains of living things. The visit to the Museum of Archaeology gave them insight into past lifeways and how archaeologist reconstruct them using material remains.

The students gained first hand knowledge and real life exposure to what they have been learning in school.

The University of Ghana School of Arts and the Museum of Archaeology invite the entire university community and the general public to their much-anticipated exhibition on Salvage Archaeology and the Marine Drive Heritage of Osu.

The exhibition will be launched on the 7th of September, 2022 at the Museum of Archaeology and will run until 30th October, 2022.
