From Attribution to Diversion: Where Did Aisha (رضي الله عنها) Say What Was Attributed to Her?

Maa shaa Allah. We thank the brothers who tagged us and shared Afa Usman's response with us. Jazakumullahu khairan.

We listened carefully to Afa Usman's response with an open mind, hoping to hear where the Mother of the Believers, Aisha (رضي الله عنها), said the words that were categorically attributed to her. Specifically, the claim that she told Masruq:

"Arafah is according to your local sighting and your own count of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, and Eid is according to your own count of the 10th."

This was important because the statement was not presented as a casual remark. It was presented as one of the strongest pieces of evidence against the global sighting view and as compelling proof for the local sighting position.

Had Aisha (رضي الله عنها) actually said this, it would indeed have been a powerful piece of evidence deserving serious consideration. That is precisely why our clarification was necessary.

Unfortunately, after listening to the response, we heard discussions about weak narrations, Arabic grammar, personalities, sects, labels, and other side issues. Yet the central question remains unanswered: where is the narration in which Aisha (رضي الله عنها) said those words?

At one point, we were even told that even if the hadith is not exactly as it was presented, the point still stands. But that is precisely the issue. If a specific statement is attributed to Aisha (رضي الله عنها) as evidence, then the first question must be whether she actually said it.

What makes this discussion even more interesting is that many of us remember a time when Afa Usman himself made strong and compelling arguments for the global sighting view. He even explained why some Muslims may choose to align with Saudi Arabia's moon sighting for the sake of certainty, given the immense effort, scrutiny, and resources invested in moon sighting. Many people were genuinely convinced by those arguments and adopted that position because of them.

In fact, he continued advancing those arguments until he later informed us that he had received a very strong warning regarding his views on the moon-sighting issue. Could he have been pressured to change his opinion to his current position on the subject? Only Allah knows best. We mention this only because it is something he himself made public.

Scholarly positions may change, and there is nothing wrong with that. What requires clarification is when words are attributed to Aisha (رضي الله عنها) that still have not been demonstrated from the sources as presented.

Our position remains unchanged. This discussion was never about personalities. It was never about sects. It was never about labels.

It was about a statement attributed to Aisha (رضي الله عنها).

Where is the narration in which she said:

"Arafah is according to your local sighting and your own count of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, and Eid is according to your own count of the 10th"?

Truth is beyond labels and affiliations or even sects. No one is beyond error or correction except Allah سبحانه وتعالى. Our duty is to follow the evidence wherever it leads, even when it challenges our assumptions or long-held positions.

Allah alone is All-Knowing. We ask Allah to show us the truth as truth and grant us the ability to follow it, and to show us falsehood as falsehood and grant us the ability to avoid it. May Allah guide us all to that which is correct and pleasing to Him.
