My Guest on the UniPlatform last sunday was the Executive director of the National youth Council Mr Lamin Darboe and the chairman of the Council FaBakary Kalleh. The Executive Director of the National youth council highligted the role and function of the Council as well as its Mandate.

The (NYC)Was established by an act of parliament in 2000 (NYC ACT) and the Council is one of the sattelite instititutions under the ministry of Youth and Sports. Currently 60 Youths Organisations are registered with the Council.

The council is not directly delivering services critical to the needs and aspiration of the young People rather, The NYC is here to facilitate the participation of young people in decision making and national development.

*The council is mandated to coordinate and supervise all youth programs and activities in the Gambia including regional youth committies as the decentralised arms of the council in all the regions.

*Registering national Youth organisations

*Advise Government on matters relating to youths

*Organising the national youth conference and festival
and host of other Functions.

The upcoming event of the Council is NAYCONF(National Youth Conference and Festival which targets about 1500 youths across the legnth and breath of the country under the theme:
"Youth Entrepreneurship and sport development".

With a Youthful population, Youth Entrepreneurship is essential for a job creation and elimination of unemployment in the Gambia says the Executive Director. Looking forward to a very succesful Nayconf
