UEG UNVEILS FIRST-EVER DEGREE PROGRAMMES, MARKING A HISTORIC NEW CHAPTER IN HIGHER EDUCATION
On Tuesday 19th May 2026, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education The Gambia, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, officially unveiled the first-ever degree programmes to be run by the University of Education The Gambia (UEG).
Delevering his presentation, the Vice Chancellor expressed that this landmark event marks the beginning of a transformative era as UEG moves boldly into its full mandate as a specialised university committed to excellence in teacher education, professional development, research, innovation, and national service.
The unveiling reflects months of strategic planning, institutional development, and stakeholder collaboration aimed at expanding access to quality higher education and producing highly competent professionals to serve national and global development. The Undergraduate degree programmes include the following:
• B.Sc. Ed. Biology
• B.Sc. Ed. Chemistry
• B.Sc. Ed. Physics
• B.Sc. Ed. Mathematics
• B.Sc. Ed. Agriculture
• B.Sc. Ed. Geography
• B.Sc. Economics Education
• B.A. English Education
• B.A. French Education
• B.A. History Education
• B.A. Islamic Studies
In response to emerging national needs and growing student interest, the Vice Chancellor also announced that UEG is introducing new additional undergraduate programmes to be run in a Gambian University for the first time including:
• B.A. Civic Education
• B.A. Education (Arabic Language)
• B.Ed. in Primary Education
• B.Ed. in Early Childhood Education
• B.Sc. Science with specialisations in:
o Home Management
o Food and Nutrition
o Clothing and Textile
Being committed to postgraduate education and advanced professional training, the university has also launched the following postgraduate programmes:
• M.Ed. Educational Administration and Management
• MSc. in Education Management Information System (MSc–EMIS)
• M.Ed. Educational Measurement and Evaluation
• Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
Strongly assuring the public, the VC stated that while celebrating the introduction of degree programmes, UEG remains fully committed to its longstanding mission of teacher preparation and professional upgrading through the School of Initial Teacher Education and Professional Studies (SITEPS).
These programmes remain central to the institution's mission of teacher preparation and professional upgrading. The continuing non-degree programmes include:
• Advanced Diploma in Education (Secondary)
• Advanced Diploma in Education (Primary) – In-Service
• Advanced Diploma in Education (Primary) – Pre-Service
• Advanced Diploma in Education (Primary): Islamic & Arabic Studies
• Advanced Diploma in Education in Early Childhood Development (ECD)
UEG will also continue to offer:
• Higher Diploma in Community Based Policing and Security Studies
• Certificate in Catering
• Advanced Diploma in Library and Information Science
