⛴The spectacular crew for the 7th Pelion Summer Lab will soon make landfall in Neochori

🌏 From Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong to Iran, Lebanon, Turkey and Albania, from Colombia and Puerto Rico to Spain, Italy, France, the UK to Canada, the US and, let's not forget, Greece, this is our biggest and maybe most international cohort ever!

🗣Even though our working language will be English, at the mess table and the crew's quarters, one will likely here many of the 21 languages - from Arabic, Persian, Italian, Spanish, French, Turkish, Tamil, Cantonese, Lithuanian, Norwegian - spoken by this cohort - many of the languages that historically have animated the Mediterrean waters.

🌊Geographers, philosophers, novelists, filmmakers, poets, anthropologists, literary scholars, curators, environmental scientists, visual artists, curators, composers, dancers and, of course, sailors, the crew have navigated ports and coasts from Beirut to the Arctic, Recife to Galata, Puerto Rico to New York, and studied and intervened in struggles over labor, fishing, pollution, privitization and more.

🗄️Ioulia Pentazou is a historian and Assistant Professor of Humanities and Digital Media at the University of Thessaly. Her work moves between cultural heritage, digital media, archives, museums, and public history, asking how historical materials become meaningful in the digital age.

📷Through projects with memory institutions, Pentazou explores how photographs, letters, oral testimonies, press material, and archival fragments can be transformed into digital exhibits and public narratives. Her teaching on digital exhibits and GLAM databases asks precisely how cultural information is organized, interpreted, and brought to life for different publics.

🏛️She also helps coordinate the Digital Museum of Neochori, a platform that functions at once as archive, museum, and local memory commons. Her wider work includes database and website design for the 1821 Digital Archive, a major digital humanities project dedicated to rethinking the Greek Revolution through open, multilayered archival access.

🌐At PSL 2026, Pentazou brings vital questions to The Planet in the Port: how do places remember? How do archives travel? And how might digital media help us tell more layered, situated, and collective histories?

🗺️ Aspassia Kouzoupi is an architect, landscape designer, and researcher whose work explores landscapes as layered archives—where ecological processes, human interventions, and infrastructures accumulate across time. Moving between architecture, mapping, environmental thinking, and design, her research investigates infrastructural palimpsests, Mediterranean socio-natural systems, and landscape transformation in the Anthropocene.

🪨 A founding member of Sculpted Architectural Landscapes: Golanda + Kouzoupi, her work spans research, teaching, and built projects that rethink the relationship between landscape, memory, and infrastructure—from quarries and archaeological sites to waterways, urban ecosystems, and the traces left by historical and contemporary networks of circulation.

⚓ At PSL 2026, her work resonates deeply with The Planet in the Port: inviting us to understand infrastructures not as static objects, but as living terrains where environment, extraction, movement, and time become entangled.

👣 How do we map the city from below—from the perspective of migrants, solidarities, disappearances, sounds, and everyday acts of survival?

🗺️ Tom Western is a social and cultural geographer at UCL whose work moves across sound studies, migration, urban geography, and political art practice. His research explores how borders and cities are sensed, narrated, and contested through sound, memory, and collective cultural production across the Eastern Mediterranean.

💮 A core member of the Syrian and Greek Youth Forum in Athens, Western collaborates on projects including the Citizen Sound Archive and Undercartographies—a collaborative research and artistic platform experimenting with counter-mapping the city through migrant experience, grassroots infrastructures, and submerged political histories. Together, this work asks what official maps fail to register, and what alternative forms of orientation emerge through listening, movement, and collective life.

🌊The Mediterranean is often imagined as a line that divides—but what if it is better understood as a moving archive of crossings, struggles, and unfinished histories?

🛟Chloe Howe Haralambous is a scholar of Comparative Literature whose work traces the politics of mobility across the Mediterranean, where migration, policing, and narrative converge. Her current book project, The Rescue Plot: Politics, Policing and Subterfuge in the Mediterranean Migrant Corridor, brings maritime fiction into dialogue with the lived turbulence of sea crossings—drawing on her time aboard activist rescue vessels and aircraft along Europe’s maritime border.

⚓️Beyond academia, Chloe’s work is deeply grounded in practice. She is a co-founder of the Mosaik Support Center for Refugees and Locals on Lesvos, a vital grassroots space of solidarity, and has worked with the search-and-rescue organization Sea-Watch, participating in efforts to monitor and intervene in the deadly politics of Europe’s border regime at sea.

⚡️At PSL 2026, her work resonates powerfully with The Planet in the Port—where the sea is not a backdrop, but an active terrain of struggle, narration, and possibility.

📣Λάβαμε και αναδημοσιεύουμε ανακοίνωση της Αντιπολεμικής Πρωτοβουλίας Σύρου:

Θέλουµε το ισραηλινό κρουαζιερόπλοιο Crown Iris στο νησί µας; ❓

Φέτος όπως ανακοινώθηκε το Crown Iris έχει εντάξει τη Σύρο στους προορισμούς του, με έντεκα αφίξεις, ξεκινώντας από τις 8 Μαΐου. 📅

Τι σηµαίνει η άφιξη του Crown Iris στο νησί µας:

Κάθε φορά που ελλιμενίζεται το Crown Iris για λίγες ώρες, εφαρμόζονται για μια ολόκληρη μέρα ειδικά μέτρα ασφαλείας που περιλαμβάνουν τον αποκλεισµό τµήµατος της θαλάσσιας και χερσαίας λιµενικής ζώνης. Το αποτέλεσμα αυτών των περιοριστικών μέτρων είναι η διατάραξη της κοινωνικής, οικονομικής και τουριστικής ζωής στην Ερμούπολη, χωρίς να έχει προηγηθεί οποιαδήποτε διαβούλευση με τους κοινωνικούς και επιχειρηματικούς φορείς του νησιού.

⚠️Το αποτύπωμα που άφησε το Crown Iris στις τοπικές κοινωνίες και την κοινή γνώμη το περασμένο καλοκαίρι δεν ήταν θετικό. Από την Κέρκυρα, τον Βόλο, την Καλαμάτα μέχρι την Κρήτη και τη Ρόδο, όπου έδεσε το Crown Iris, υπό δρακόντεια μέτρα ασφαλείας, η στάση των ισραηλινών «τουριστών» ήταν προκλητική και συνοδευόταν µε χειρονοµίες, προπηλακισµούς, τραµπουκισµούς και φθορές ξένης περιουσίας.

Στη Σύρο, η ειρηνική συγκέντρωση αλληλεγγύης εκατοντάδων πολιτών απέναντι στη γενοκτονία που υφίσταται o Παλαιστινιακός λαός 🇵🇸, έγινε αιτία για την εκδήλωση επιθετικών διαθέσεων πολλών επιβατών από το κατάστρωμα του κρουαζιερόπλοιου με χυδαίες εκφράσεις και χειρονομίες, και τελικά το Crown Iris απέπλευσε χωρίς να αποβιβαστούν οι επιβάτες του. Μήπως η συμπερίληψη της Σύρου στους προορισμούς του Crown Iris με τέτοια συχνότητα σχετίζεται με την πρόθεση για «τσαλάκωμα» ή/και σβήσιμο της εικόνας του νησιού που ταξίδεψε παντού εκφράζοντας την αλληλεγγύη της τοπικής κοινωνίας στον Παλαιστινιακό λαό;

Το Crown Iris ⚓δεν είναι απλά ένα κρουαζιερόπλοιο. Η ισραηλινή ιδιοκτήτρια εταιρία ΜΑΝΟ το χρησιμοποιεί για την εξυπηρέτηση αποστολών σχετιζόµενων µε τις πολεµικές επιχειρήσεις του Ισραήλ, ενώ ο όμιλος εταιριών ΜΑΝΟ επεκτείνεται και σε άλλους οικονομικούς τομείς, όπως ενεργειακούς, που σχετίζονται άμεσα με το κράτος του Ισραήλ. Οι επιβάτες του Crown Iris δεν είναι «αθώοι» ισραηλινοί τουρίστες. Όπως οι ίδιοι έχουν παραδεχτεί δημόσια, ανάμεσα τους βρίσκονται στρατιώτες του ισραηλινού στρατού (IDF), οι οποίοι κάνουν αμέριμνα τις διακοπές τους εν μέσω γενοκτονίας στον λαό της Παλαιστίνης και επιθετικών πολέμων σε όλη την περιοχή που διαπράττει ο ίδιος ο στρατός τους.

Το Ισραήλ ξεκίνησε και κλιμακώνει έναν ανελέητο πόλεμο σε Ιράν και Λίβανο, κατά παράβαση κάθε έννοιας διεθνούς δικαίου, με κίνδυνο γενίκευσης και επέκτασής του πέρα από το σημερινά του όρια. 🌍

Το Ισραήλ, λειτουργώντας ως κράτος τροµοκράτης, συνεχίζει να δολοφονεί δεκάδες χιλιάδες παιδιά και άµαχο πληθυσµό στοχεύοντας σε σχολεία, νοσοκοµεία και δηµόσιες υποδοµές. 🕊️

⚠️Η χώρα µας εµπλέκεται στις πολεµικές επιχειρήσεις µε τη συµµετοχή Ελληνικών στρατιωτικών σωµάτων, την παροχή οπλισµού εκτός συνόρων και διευκολύνσεων µέσω Αµερικάνικων βάσεων, διακινδυνεύοντας τη στοχοποίηση του λαού µας.

H συριανή κοινωνία θα ήθελε να προσφέρει τη φιλοξενία της και τις δηµόσιες υποδοµές για να ξεπλυθεί, µέσω του τουρισµού, η γενοκτονία που διαπράττει και οι πόλεµοι που σπέρνει σε όλη την περιοχή το κράτος του Ισραήλ;

Φέτος η Ερµούπολη γιορτάζει τα 200 χρόνια από την ίδρυση της. Τί ιστορικό αποτύπωµα θέλουµε να αφήσουµε στις επόµενες γενιές για αυτό το νησί; Θα δεχτούµε τα µατωµένα λεφτά των ισραηλινών και θα συναινέσουµε στην απανθρωποποίηση και την κτηνωδία ή θα υπερασπιστούµε την ειρήνη, τη δικαιοσύνη και την αυτοδιάθεση των λαών; ✊

Καλούµε καθεµία/καθέναν ξεχωριστά όπως και κάθε συλλογικό φορέα (επαγγελµατικό συνδικαλιστικό, κοινωνικό, πολιτικό) του νησιού να πάρει θέση και να απαιτήσει να ακυρωθούν οι προγραµµατισµένες αφίξεις του Crown Iris ώστε να βγει η Σύρος από τον κατάλογο των προορισµών του.

⚓What happens when dockworkers refuse the logistics of war?

🪝José is a Genoa-based dockworker, trade unionist, and organizer with the Collettivo Autonomo Lavoratori Portuali (CALP) and the grassroots union Unione Sindacale di Base (USB). His work has helped turn the port into a site of resistance—mobilizing workers to block arms shipments and challenge the role of global logistics in sustaining war.

🍉Nivoi’s activism extends beyond the dock. In 2025, he joined the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza, a humanitarian and political mission intercepted at sea, where activists were detained before returning to Italy. He has also taken part in international solidarity convoys to Cuba, linking port struggles to broader anti-imperialist movements.

✊🏽At PSL 2026, Nivoi brings a grounded, militant perspective to The Planet in the Port—where infrastructure becomes a frontline, and labor a force of interruption and solidarity.
