Queering Design
We’re excited to host Queering Design with social design engineer & facilitator (steward for ***rdesignclub) at ASFA LAB12 on Wednesday 21st of January at 11:30am
This lecture and workshop introduces q***ring design as a critical and practical approach to contemporary design practice.
Rather than understanding “q***r” only as identity, we explore it as a method: a way to question norms, surface power structures, and challenge the assumptions that quietly shape how we design, and for whom.
Come to listen, play, and learn how to apply a q***r lens to your design processes.
The workshop will be held in English, participation is free.

This series of screenings is dedicated to girlhood, a subject in film that we feel is often underestimated by film critics and festivals and portrayed as something frivolous, cheesy and substance lacking. Most notable example would be Twilight’s poor reviews in 2008, most of them written by men, dismissed the film as fodder for the girly masses. Roger Ebert called it “tepid,” and wrote “Twilight will mesmerise its target audience, 16-year-old girls and their grandmothers.” Often recycling gender stereotypes and basing their protagonists character around consumption and male validation, young female characters in media often lack perspective due to lack of directing roles of women in the industry. In recent years this has taken a shift with female directors receiving recognition by mainstream media like Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a lady of a lady on fire) Greta Gerwig (Ladybird) and Denis Gamze Ergüven (Mustang), though we still have a long way to go.
Through these screenings we aim to emphasise takes on the theme of femininity and girlhood we find interesting and relevant.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of being joined by the artist Brody Condon. After presenting himself to us, he followed up by demonstrating various game-like scenarios. We designed live interaction design techniques, run-time management, debriefing and workflow with a focus on post session critique and developing critical sensitivity to a new spectrum of experience.
Thank you for joining us 💤

We are happy to announce the first event of the LAB12 FILM CLUB, a double premiere of 2 short films: TA YPARXONTA MAC and MDNA. The screening will happen in LAB12 on Monday 12th of May 6:30pm.
A few words about the films:
“Both tied through a mutual understanding and decoding of post-christian greek tradition and aesthetics in modern society, the films chosen share a new point of view on the matter. That of the outcasts, the q***rs, the rebels.
TA YPARXONTA MAC
by Maro Tsoukala, Electra Peraki & Margarita Tserph
The film follows the story of a greek family preparing their Christmas dinner table. As the evening progresses and conversations unfold, tension rises in the household.
Through the lens of their own lived experiences of hyper Christian - conservatory upbringing the director and contributors share a glimpse of the world that resides under the glossy surface of “the perfect family”.
MDNA by Giorgos Koubos
“A moving and photographic anthology based on Orthodoxy and women in Christianity from a personal and modern point of view. This project was born from my need to express how exposure to church in my childhood years has shaped my everyday life and how in the heart of Athens and through youth’s impulse, I find similarities with a story written many years ago, that still influences our society today.”
The directors and contributors will be present at the event and open to your questions and conversation. Don’t miss it! 🍿
