The Hellenic Chambers Transport Association (HCTA) was founded by the Greek Chambers of Commerce & Industry in 1995 as a non-profit organization. It is managed by a Board of Directors, composed of 19 members, elected every four years by the General Assembly of its members (Chambers). The current Board, elected in June 2012, consists of Presidents, members of Administrative Councils and Executive C
ommittees and representatives of Greek Chambers, with a representative regional composition and balance amongst participating Chambers. 1. Exchange of experience and expertise in the field of transport between the Greek Chambers of Commerce & Industry
2. Assistance to the overall national efforts in developing and modernizing the Greek transport system
3. The study of specific transport issues at local, regional, national and international level
4. Cooperation with national authorities and those of the European Union and other European and international organizations and bodies concerned with transport related subjects
Over the last two decades, the HCTA has studied issues related to the infrastructure of road, sea, rail and combined transport, and has provided specific interventions and proposals for the development and modernization of transport systems in the country, which were taken into account in the design of transport policy at local, national and European level. The H.C.T.A. has undertaken specific initiatives and projects for the development of national transport opportunities, on the basis of Public and Private sector Partnerships. It has prepared a series of studies and organized several major national, regional and international Conferences, Seminars, Round Tables and Workshops, in collaboration with Greek national authorities, the European Commission, Ministries of neighboring countries, as well as several European and international organizations, including the United Nations and the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), more particularly. had an active role in the activities of the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry (EUROCHAMBRES) and is a member of the Network of European Freight Villages (EUROPLATFORMS). The Association was the main instigator and supporter for the development of a network of Freight Centers within Greece and also highlighted a range of other initiatives that would help improve and modernize the Greek transport sector and the development of the Greek regions and islands, in cooperation with the Network of the Insular Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the European Union (INSULEUR) and the Association of Chambers for the Development of Greek Isles (EOAEN). Currently, the Association has thirty-three (33) members, primarily most of the Greek Chambers of Commerce and Industry, along with several innovative haulage and forwarding Associations, shipping agents and transport companies.
