🇪🇺 Statement from Georgios Stamatis, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Rapporteur on Roma and Travellers, on International Romani Resistance Day.

On May 16, we commemorate International Romani Resistance Day, honoring the extraordinary bravery of Roma and Sinti prisoners who revolted against N**i SS guards at Auschwitz-Birkenau on this day in 1944.

​Armed only with sticks, stones, and human dignity, their uprising delayed the liquidation of the camp—standing as a powerful, yet often overlooked, symbol of resistance against N**i barbarity.

🔹️​As the General Rapporteur on Roma and Travellers, I emphasise our shared responsibility to ensure the history of the Roma Holocaust and these acts of defiance are recognised across Europe.

​We must remain firmly committed to:
▪️​Visibility: Embedding Roma history, culture, and memory into our educational systems and public institutions.
▪️​Action: Using the memory of this outstanding courage to fuel our ongoing fight against modern-day antigypsyism, discrimination, and exclusion.

​Preserving this memory is vital to ensuring such atrocities are never repeated again.

Η ψυχική ανθεκτικότητα (resilience) είναι η δυναμική ικανότητα του ανθρώπου να προσαρμόζεται θετικά, να ανακάμπτει και να εξελίσσεται μετά από δύσκολες καταστάσεις, τραυματικές εμπειρίες ή καθημερινές αντιξοότητες. Δεν σημαίνει την απουσία άγχους ή ότι κάποιος είναι "άτρωτος", αλλά την ουσιαστική διαχείριση της κρίσης.

Είχα την τιμή να συμμετάσχω ενεργά στο policy forum του Cedefop για την παρουσίαση του νέου ευρωπαϊκού πλαισίου αναφοράς για τη διά βίου συμβουλευτική σταδιοδρομίας που πραγματοποιήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη στις 12–13 Μαΐου 2026.

Το νέο πλαίσιο περιλαμβάνει 18 κατευθυντήριες γραμμές με στόχο τη βελτίωση των υπηρεσιών διά βίου συμβουλευτικής στους τομείς της εκπαίδευσης, της απασχόλησης και της κοινωνικής ένταξης, δίνοντας έμφαση στις δεξιότητες διαχείρισης σταδιοδρομίας, την προσβασιμότητα, τη διασφάλιση ποιότητας, την ψηφιοποίηση και τη συμπερίληψη.

Το forum συγκέντρωσε φορείς, επαγγελματίες, κοινωνικούς εταίρους και διεθνείς οργανισμούς, με στόχο την ανταλλαγή απόψεων για την εφαρμογή του πλαισίου σε διαφορετικά εθνικά και θεσμικά περιβάλλοντα.

Η διά βίου συμβουλευτική αναγνωρίζεται πλέον ολοένα και περισσότερο στην Ευρώπη ως ένα στρατηγικό, διατομεακό εργαλείο πολιτικής για την υποστήριξη της εκπαίδευσης, της απασχόλησης, της κοινωνικής ένταξης και των βιώσιμων μεταβάσεων σε ένα διαρκώς μεταβαλλόμενο περιβάλλον. Βασικές προκλήσεις παραμένουν η ανάπτυξη συνεκτικών και συμπεριληπτικών συστημάτων, η ενίσχυση της διατομεακής διακυβέρνησης και του συντονισμού, η επαγγελματοποίηση και η καθιέρωση ενιαίων προσόντων των επαγγελματιών, η διασφάλιση ποιότητας και η ισότιμη πρόσβαση για διαφορετικές ομάδες πληθυσμού.

Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δόθηκε επίσης στην ανάγκη εξισορρόπησης της αυξανόμενης χρήσης της τεχνητής νοημοσύνης με τη διατήρηση της ουσιαστικής ανθρώπινης υποστήριξης.

Σε ευθυγράμμιση με τις ευρύτερες ευρωπαϊκές προτεραιότητες, το νέο πλαίσιο φιλοδοξεί να αποτελέσει μια κοινή γλώσσα και ένα πρακτικό σημείο αναφοράς για τις χώρες που επιδιώκουν να ενισχύσουν τα συστήματα διά βίου συμβουλευτικής σταδιοδρομίας με στόχο την ατομική και κοινωνική ευημερία.

✨ Full house of Roma and Traveller agents of change and supporters yesterday! 🤩

ADI-ROM members, participants and observers, along with the participants from the 21st Dialogue meeting with Roma and Traveller CSO, came together for a constructive exchange on democratic governance, community representation, and participation in public and political life.

We also looked ahead to the next steps for implementing the 2026–2030 Strategy, sharing ideas, concerns, and expectations for the years to come.

We witnessed strong engagement, thoughtful contributions, and a clear call for greater involvement and visibility of Roma and Traveller communities.
