🏆 NOBEL HER STORY: Marie Skłodowska-Curie

She didn’t just break the glass ceiling — she shattered it twice.
In 1903, Marie Skłodowska-Curie became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, awarded in Physics alongside Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel for their pioneering work on radioactivity.

But she didn’t stop there.
In 1911, she made history again — becoming the first person ever to win two Nobel Prizes, this time in Chemistry, for discovering the elements polonium and radium.

🔬 Curie’s groundbreaking research transformed science and medicine — and paved the way for generations of women in STEM.

💡 Her legacy lives on in every girl who dares to ask “what if?” and every classroom where curiosity is celebrated.

🌟 Following the successful G-STEAM Mentor Training Programme in Bologna, mentors came together once again for a second online follow-up session to reflect on their training experience, share progress, and prepare for the next phase of co-creation activities.

The session provided an opportunity to reconnect, exchange updates from mentoring teams across Europe, explore new AI-powered features of the Community of Practice, and discuss how collaborative work will continue in the coming months.

💡 The enthusiasm, engagement, and commitment demonstrated by the mentors confirmed that the momentum created in Bologna is continuing to grow, strengthening our shared mission for more gender-inclusive STEAM education.

👩‍🔬 Women Who Lead in STEAM #3
Answer: Gladys West — the mathematician behind GPS 🌍

Dr. West joined the U.S. Navy in the 1960s and played a pivotal role in the development of global positioning systems by modeling the geoid — the true shape of the Earth — with unprecedented accuracy.

In the 1980s, she used the IBM 7030 Stretch computer to program complex algorithms that factored in sea levels, gravitational pull, and tidal forces. Her work became the backbone of the modern GPS.

🗺️ Today, whenever you hear “Keep left at the fork,” you're hearing the legacy of Gladys West.

📢 G-STEAM continues to strengthen its research and dissemination impact across Europe!

At ICGR 2026, a full conference paper on G-STEAM was accepted and presented by LIST, contributing to the ongoing dialogue around gender-inclusive STEAM education and innovation. Visit the website of the conference here: https://conferencealerts.com/show-event?id=272115 OR https://www.academic-conferences.org/conferences/icgr/

At ModACT 2026, LIST also presented a poster focused on the G-STEAM skill set and the use of Situational Judgment Tests (SJTs) for activity analysis, highlighting innovative approaches to competence development and educational assessment. Visit the website of ModACT here: https://www.modact.net/programme-2026

These contributions were peer-reviewed, officially accepted, and published in the conference proceedings, reinforcing G-STEAM’s commitment to evidence-based research, academic collaboration, and transformative teacher education.

👏 Congratulations to the LIST team for this important achievement!

🧠 GUESS WHO? #3
Before Google Maps, before turn-by-turn directions — she was calculating the Earth’s shape, by hand and by code.

She joined the U.S. Navy in the 1960s as a mathematician and programmer. Her mission?
To measure the Earth — precisely — and forever change how we find our place on it.

🔍 Clues:
🖥️ She programmed one of the earliest supercomputers
🌍 Her algorithms helped define the shape of the planet
📡 Without her, GPS as we know it wouldn't exist

💬 Any guesses? Drop them below!
Answer revealed tomorrow.
