Yanlei Li is a PhD student in Film Studies at the Academy of Film, Hong Kong Baptist University. She holds an MA in Film Creation from the Communication University of China. Her extensive hands-on experience in short film production deeply informs her research, which examines Chinese independent cinema, post-adolescent youth culture, trash aesthetics, and the ontological implications of Al-generated imagery, with a particular focus on contemporary East Asian youth creative practice. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in journals such as Appreciation, Comparative Study of Cultural Innovation, and Film Studies. She has presented at the 2025 Hong Kong Film Academic Conference, the 12th National Film Studies Youth Scholars Forum, the Hong Kong Association for Digital Humanities (HKADH) Conference 2026, the Tsinghua International Conference on "Humanistic Dialogues in the Age of Al," and the Joint International Doctoral Symposium on "Global Perspectives on Social Problems, Policy, and Practice."

Meet the Speakers

The 4th Global Media and Culture Conference brings together scholars and researchers from around the world to explore one of the most pressing questions of our time: how has the shift from mass media to algorithmic media transformed the way we communicate, produce culture, and understand the world around us?

Taking place on July 1 and 2, 2026 in Kastoria, Greece, the conference is co-organized by the Peace Journalism Lab at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; the Korean Association for Public Diplomacy; the Academy of Film at Hong Kong Baptist University; the Communication University of China; the Philippines Communication Society; and the University of Elbasan "Aleksandër Xhuvani."
