Remembering Janet Jagan on Her 17th Death Anniversary

Today, we pause to honour the life and legacy of Janet Jagan, a remarkable woman whose unwavering dedication to the people of Guyana helped shape the nation’s history.

As we mark the 17th anniversary of her passing, we reflect on her lifelong commitment to justice, equality, and national development. Born in the United States, Mrs. Jagan made Guyana her home and devoted her life to the struggle for independence alongside her husband, Cheddi Jagan. Together, they stood at the forefront of the country’s political transformation.

Janet Jagan’s contributions extended far beyond politics. She was a champion of workers’ rights, a defender of democracy, and a passionate advocate for the underprivileged. As Guyana’s first female President, she broke barriers and served with humility and strength, always guided by her deep love for the nation and its people.

Her legacy also lives on through her work in literature and education, particularly her efforts to inspire young minds through storytelling and cultural preservation.

Today, we remember Janet Jagan not only as a leader, but as a patriot whose life was defined by service, sacrifice, and resilience. Her vision and ideals continue to inspire generations as we strive to build a better Guyana.

May her memory forever remain a blessing and a guiding light to all.
