CIMA met with the AFRC to initiate a dialogue on advancing the accounting and finance profession in Hong Kong and beyond. Key topics included the profession’s role in creating value for society, fostering opportunities for mutual recognition in an increasingly globalised environment, the importance of character-driven leadership, and the role of robust regulation in strengthening audit quality, enhancing trust in financial reporting, and reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as an international financial hub.
CIMA also briefed the newly published RISE 2040 Vision Report in the meeting. In which the 5 Strategic Plays: AI-Enabled Profession, Value Model Transformation, Workforce Reinvention, Trust & Assurance Expansion, Profession Repositioning, closely align with the priorities identified for the profession in Hong Kong and globally.
During the meeting, CIMA officially awarded a CIMA Honorary Fellowship to Dr David Sun, Chairman of the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council (AFRC) in Hong Kong. Presented by Dr William Chen, FCMA, CGMA, CIMA Council Member, this award celebrates Dr Sun’s contributions and achievements in the accounting, finance and business community in Hong Kong. Dr. Sun is the third recipient of this honorary fellowship, following Mr. Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and Dr. Kelvin Wong, Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission.
Dr Sun said, “It is a great honour to receive the CIMA Honorary Fellowship. This recognition brings my professional journey full circle—from my early days as a practising accountant in the United States, to a long and fulfilling career in Hong Kong, and now to my current role in regulation. It is also a testament to the collective efforts of the AFRC team in promoting corporate, audit quality, professional excellence, and the public interest. I am deeply grateful for this recognition and for the opportunity to contribute to the continued trust, integrity, and success of our profession.”
CIMA continues working closely with AFRC to uphold trust, promote professional excellence and support Hong Kong’s development as an international financial centre.
