We are proud to announce that ZENG Yuqiyu, a MPP student from the Division of Public Policy, has secured 2nd Runner-Up at the HKUST Talent Quest 2025, held to celebrate HKUST’s 35th Anniversary!
A vibrant showcase of creativity and diversity, the competition featured 12 finalists who brought a stunning array of talents—including singing, dancing, guitar performances, and magic acts—while representing rich cultural traditions from China, Vietnam, India, and beyond. Yuqiyu’s standout performance captured the spirit of the event and earned her this well-deserved recognition.
Congratulations to Yuqiyu on this wonderful achievement! This success highlights not only her exceptional artistic skills but also the vibrant, multicultural spirit of our PPOL community, where students shine both in academics and creative pursuits.

🎉Congratulations to Dr. Xinyi Wang and Prof. Naubahar Sharif recently published article in the British Educational Research Journal!🎉

Their paper, titled “Life as an ethnic minority (EM) university student: Comparing mental health challenges among local and international EM students in Hong Kong", examining the mental health challenges faced by ethnic minority (EM) university students in Hong Kong, comparing experiences between local and international EM students. Their work highlights the unique pressures, systemic barriers, and nuanced disparities affecting EM students’ well-being, offering critical, evidence-based insights to inform more inclusive mental health policies and support services in higher education.

🎉 Congratulations to Prof. Yarime Masaru! 🎉

We are delighted to celebrate Prof. Masaru YARIME from the Division of Public Policy at HKUST for his newly published article in the Research Policy Journal.

"Directing environmental innovation toward radical clean technologies for sustainable transitions: Market-based vs. command-and-control policies".

His study examines how different policy instruments—market-based versus command-and-control approaches—shape the direction of environmental innovation, driving the development and adoption of radical clean technologies to advance sustainable transitions.

🎉 Big congratulations to Prof. Alex HE Jingwei 🎉

We are delighted to share that Prof. He has been appointed as a Member of the Humanities and Social Sciences Panel (Joint Research Schemes) of the Research Grants Council (RGC).

Prior to this appointment, Prof He has served on the assessment panel of RGC’s Competitive Research Funding Schemes for the Local Self-financing Degree Sector since 2020.

He is an outstanding faculty member at PPOL and HKUST at large. His impressive record of major grants and awards continues to inspire both colleagues and students alike.
