[Innovative STEM education gadget] (中文版本見文末) Quality STEM education is key to equipping our future generation with skills to tackle pressing challenges in the 21st century. Three HKU science undergraduate students took the lead to develop an innovative gadget called "Imagine:bit" to make STEM education fun and effective for young children. It is a DIY micro:bit remote-controlled 2-in-1 Dragon Racer that nurtures kids’ STEM-related knowledge and programming skills to explore both the physical and the virtual worlds.

讓學生學習STEM知識，有助他們迎接二十一世紀的挑戰。港大理學院的三位本科生共同研發了一款創新的STEM教育玩具「Imagine:bit」，讓兒童透過有趣而高效的方式學習STEM相關知識。Imagine:bit 是以micro:bit遙距操控的DIY 二合一「玩具飛龍」，兒童可以透過冒險模式和電腦遊戲模式探索各種科學工程原理，並學習基本編程技巧。

Hi! I’m Jasmine, co-founder of Imagine:bit.

It’s wonderful to be involved in the design of Imagine:bit. I’ve had so much fun creating this cool Dragon Racer that is both educational and exciting to play with. Other co-founders and I have paid a lot of effort to make sure your child has the best learning experience with Imagine:bit. It is a truly unique playset, and I wish I had Imagine:bit as a toy when I was younger! I hope young children find the engineering principles of the racer interesting, and most importantly, enjoy playing with it!

【Programming in Imagine:bit】

The Advanture Mode and Game Mode of Imagine:bit are based on block programming languages for children: Microsoft Makecode and Scratch. By dragging and connecting the colorful blocks, your kids can learn the basics of and game design without manipulating the overwhelming codes. The awesome myth-themed game allows your kids to unleash their and program their own fun game levels using . In the Adventure Mode, the Dragon Racer is designed to be easily customizable - by modifying the blocks in , your kids can tune the speed of the Dragon Racer, display patterns with LEDs and add sound effects that they desire!

【Adventure Mode of Imagine:bit - Part 2】

STEM is about going beyond step-by-step instructions and becoming flexible problem solvers. In the Adventure Mode of Imagine:bit, your kids can gain skills while they assemble the Dragon Racer and the controller! They can experiment with various and , and fine-tune the speed and sensitivity using the block programming language, Microsoft . Your kids will be able to acquire hands-on experience in being : identifying and narrowing down problems, understanding the working principles of the Dragon Racer, exploring possible solutions and even designing further add-ons for the Dragon Racer! With the micro:bits, motors, and assembling parts in their hands, your kids can learn about signal between micro:bits and the working of electric circuits in an engaging way!

【Game Mode of Imagine:bit - Part 2】

In the Game Mode of Imagine:bit, your kids will explore and learn from the virtual world! Using the controller, your kids will lead their Dragon to tackle the challenges from various myth-themed game levels: the Azure Lake, the Mossy Forest, the Golden Desert, and the Frosty Tundra.

Completing the mission in each level encourages your kids to become familiar with the underlying block programming language, Scratch! They will be able to experience how Scratch works and learn to write codes to create their own exciting game levels!

In the Adventure Mode of Imagine:bit, your kids will explore the world with our Dragon Racer by directing its movement using our specially designed controller! But the excitement starts before this: your kids will be assembling the Dragon Racer and the controller themselves, by following our easy-to-understand instructions! They will be exploring how the different parts of Imagine:bit combine together to work, and how the micro:bits communicate with each other to control the Dragon Racer!
