Hello everyone 👋！We are Energie🌏, the proposed cabinet of The Society of Environmental Science, Faculty of Science , HKU Session 2025-2026! 
“Energie”— uniting “Environment”and “energy”. The term “Energy”⚡️signifies inclusivity, embracing all elements of environmental science and the diversity of our members, with the aim to foster a platform that highlights the importance of environmental issues ♻️ in shaping a sustainable future. Global/Green, Impact, and Environment, (GIE)  representing our commitment to global sustainability, making a meaningful impact, and focus on environmental stewardship.

Our logo symbolizes the harmony between nature, technology, and sustainability. The green leaf🍃represents growth and the importance of nurturing the environment. The orange gear⚙️with sun-like rays🌞signifies energy, innovation, and the role of engineering in addressing environmental challenges. The blue wave🌊 embodies the ocean, adaptability, and the interconnectedness🔗 of ecosystems. Together, these elements reflect Energie’s mission to unite environmental science, technology, and eco-awareness to foster collaboration and impactful action.

壓軸出場嘅係我地嘅候選主席Freddie Woo！佢份人E得嚟又自來熟，超多嘢講☺️！Freddie鐘意古典樂🎹🎶，藝術及時裝💛，而且都會去打網球🎾，亦都會關注國際時事🇺🇳及環境♻️相關議題！佢份人都好細心，喺處理繁瑣嘅事務，唔單只有條理，且好有耐心添，喺團隊中又識得活躍下氣氛。佢激發團隊合作，又係influencer，最重要係責任心強，且致力推廣及拉近企業與同學喺環境科學🧪 呢個career之間的距離，搵佢實firm冇問題~！！

Here comes the last one, our Proposed Chairman, Freddie Woo! He’s full of energy, super approachable☺️, and always has plenty to say like a chatterbox but in a good way ! Freddie loves classical music 🎹🎶, has a passion for arts and fashion 💛, enjoys playing tennis 🎾, and is deeply concerned about international affairs🇺🇳and environmental issues♻️. With a thoughtful and detail-oriented personality, he handles complex tasks with both patience and organisation. In the team, he not only brings positive energy, idealized influencing others, inspiring, also responsible to things in charge. What’s more is dedicated to bridging the gap between students and enterprises in the field of environmental science.🧪 With Freddie, you can count on a solid leader! 💪

[圍繞著「氣候焦慮」的Google搜尋量上升 Rise in Google searches around ‘climate anxiety’]

根據Google同BBC 100 Women獨家分享嘅數據，線上有關「氣候焦慮」嘅搜尋查詢有增加嘅跡象。😰🌍研究指出，女性比較容易受氣候焦慮影響。🚺氣候變化帶嚟嘅野火、洪水同乾旱成為全球明顯變化嘅跡象。🔥🌊報導指出，兒童同年輕人普遍感到氣候焦慮。👧🧒 Google趨勢數據亦都顯示「氣候焦慮」相關搜尋量急劇增加。📈較英文搜尋量2013年前10個月增加27倍，葡萄牙文增加73倍，簡體中文增加8.5倍，阿拉伯文增加五分之一。📊🔍北歐國家佔全球搜尋量最大份額，芬蘭、瑞典、丹麥同挪威佔40%以上。Google趨勢結合咗「氣候焦慮」同「生態焦慮」搜尋查詢，但兩者略有差異。報導指出，氣候焦慮主要同氣候變化有關，而生態焦慮就更廣泛，包括對環境健康同威脅嘅擔憂。🌱🔍

According to exclusive data shared by Google and BBC 100 Women, there are signs of increased online searches related to “climate anxiety”. 😰🌍 Studies indicate that women are more susceptible to climate anxiety. 🚺 Wildfires, floods, and droughts, which are indicators of global climate change, have become more apparent. 🔥🌊 Reports suggest that children and young people are generally experiencing climate anxiety. 👧🧒 Google Trends data also shows a significant surge in search queries related to “climate anxiety”. 📈 English searches increased by 27 times in the first ten months of 2013, Portuguese searches increased by 73 times, Simplified Chinese searches increased by 8.5 times, and Arabic searches increased by one-fifth. 📊🔍 Nordic countries have the largest share of global search volume, with Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway accounting for over 40%. 🇫🇮🇸🇪🇩🇰🇳🇴 Google Trends combines search queries for both “climate anxiety” and “ecological anxiety”, although there are slight differences between the two. Reports indicate that climate anxiety is primarily related to climate change, while ecological anxiety encompasses broader concerns about environmental health and threats. 🌱🔍

一項研究發現，每筆比特幣交易平均嘅用水量足以填滿「後院游泳池」。🏊‍♂️💦呢個比一次普通信用卡刷卡交易用嘅水量多出約六百萬倍。💳🚫呢個數字係由比特幣全球運作所依賴嘅數百萬部電腦所需用於供電同冷卻嘅水量所造成嘅。💻🌍呢項研究嘅發表正值好多地區面臨淡水短缺嘅困境。🌊🚫全球已經有三十億人口正經歷緊缺水問題，😔🌍而呢一個情況預計喺未來幾十年內將進一步惡化。呢種情況喺中亞地區正喺度發生緊，但係在喺美國，尤其係加利福尼亞州周圍，都正喺度惡化。🌎🌵而隨著氣候變化嘅加劇，情況只會變得更差。🌡️🔥研究更加指出，2021年比特幣消耗咗將近1,600億升嘅水，即係1600億升（GL）。💧♾️而2023年呢個數字會係超過2200億升。⏰💧
 
A study has found that the average amount of water used in each Bitcoin transaction is enough to fill a “backyard swimming pool.” 🏊‍♂️💦 This is about six million times more water than what is used in a typical credit card swipe. 💳🚫 This high-water consumption is a result of the power and cooling requirements of the millions of computers worldwide that support the global operation of Bitcoin. 💻🌍 The publication of this study comes at a time when many regions are facing freshwater scarcity challenges. 🌊🚫 Currently, around three billion people globally are experiencing water shortages, and this situation is expected to worsen in the coming decades. 😔🌍 This issue is particularly prevalent in Central Asia, but it is also worsening in the United States, especially around California. 🌎🌵 With the intensification of climate change, the situation is only expected to deteriorate further. 🌡️🔥 The study further indicates that in 2021, Bitcoin consumed nearly 160 billion liters of water, equivalent to 1,600 gigaliters (GL). 💧♾️ It is projected that this number could exceed 220 billion liters by 2023. ⏰💧
