the Grade 9/10 Indonesian Language and Literature class went to Jakarta for a day trip. Related to the literary unit: Dari Ave Maria ke Jalan Lain ke Roma, they have been exploring the social and historical context of the short story anthology by Idrus, one of the profound 1945 Indonesian authors. They visited Museum Joang 45, Pusat Dokumen Sastra H.B. Jassin at Taman Ismail Marzuki, and the National Museum of Indonesia. They learned more about the history of Indonesian Independence and Japanese colonization, as well as explored the ancient history of Indonesian civilization and Indonesian culture.

On 30-31 May, the BIS Debating Team participated in the NSDC (National Schools Debating Championship) at the Bandung City level. Competing against 27 high schools, our team once again delivered an outstanding performance by securing 1st place.

Congratulations to Valerie for achieving the Overall Best Speaker, Mireille for achieving 2nd Best Speaker, and Barra for achieving 7th Best Speaker. Valerie and Mireille will advance to the Provincial Level competition.

The 2026 Service Celebration brought together students from Grades 6-10 to recognize and showcase the meaningful service activities completed throughout the year. Students shared projects focused on community engagement, environmental sustainability, compassion, and global awareness. Various BIS service clubs also introduced their objectives and upcoming initiatives, encouraging students to become more involved in service learning opportunities across the school. The event also welcomed Grade 5 students, giving them an opportunity to experience the MYP service program and learn how service can create positive change within both local and global communities.

Recently several members of our Boys Varsity Basketball Team competed in the Hype Day Out 3x3 Basketball Competition Vol. 3. Our boys played well, winning both round robin matches, advancing to the quarter-final match, which they also won. In the semifinals, the boys fell just short, but ended up finishing in the top 4 of the event for their age group.

We are incredibly proud of how our players represented the BIS community, competing with energy, grit, and pride while demonstrating outstanding teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination throughout. A fantastic experience and a great step forward for our basketball program!

Last week, BIS Dragons hit the court in style, with both our Varsity and Junior teams competing in local 3v3 tournaments. Our varsity squad took on the challenge at the Hype Day Out 3x3 Basketball Competition Vol. 3, while our Junior team proudly entered two teams into the Lima Cup VI.

Thank you to all of the parents who joined us for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DOE) Parent Coffee Session. It was great to see such strong interest as we get ready to launch this program at BIS. The DOE connects well with our MYP Service as Action and DP Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS), giving students another meaningful way to apply their learning beyond the classroom.

The DOE will support students in building real world skills, developing independence, and strengthening resilience, while also encouraging them to form new connections within and beyond our community.
