Middle Room School Tour 🚌 🏰 : Mrs. Cahill’s Middle Room pupils had a most enjoyable school tour to Bunratty Castle this year 🙂

Solitary Bee Bank 🐝 : Well done to these excellent gardeners from Rang 4 who worked with Mr. Watson and his great pupil in 1st Class when the infants had gone home, to construct this solitary bee 🐝 bank in our biodiversity area in the school grounds. Our ‘Deluxe Hedgehog Hotel’ 🦔 can be seen in the left foreground 🙂

Great Gardening 🪴🙂: Mr. Whelan had a fantastic helper from Junior Infants in the garden 🙂

Bird 🐦 , Bat 🦇 and Owl 🦉 Boxes Galore: Many thanks to Roger and the team at Portlaoise Men’s Shed for constructing these fabulous bird🐦 , bat 🦇 and owl 🦉 boxes to enable us to further support biodiversity by creating more habitats for our airborne friends in our school grounds. Sonas Class Planting and enhanced Outdoor Classroom 🪴 🌺 : A huge well done to Miss. Sharkey’s Sonas Class star pupils ⭐️ for doing a fantastic job of planting up their dedicated area in our Outdoor Classroom with a fabulous array of plants 🪴 from dunnesgardencentredurrow . They are tending to their planting area very well, as you can see 🙂 👏 . Our new natural willow panelling in the background is now along the entire length of our Outdoor Classroom area, and this was purchased from timbertrove using funding from our Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) grant from the Department of Education and Youth 🙏🏼 heritage.keepers

A seasonably, Summery 🌞 entrance into Mr. Watson’s Junior Department with each of the fantastic pupils therein designing their own ice-pop to adorn the ‘doras’ 🚪 😎 🍦

Green Schools Award ♻️ 🏆 : A huge well done to our very civic minded and hardworking Green Schools committee and their co-ordinator, Mrs. Cahill, on being awarded our sixth Green Schools Flag for the theme of ‘Global Citizenship: Litter & Waste’ at the Green Schools awards ceremony in Hotel Kilkenny last week. There is also a Children's Fun Run around the triangle in Shanahoe village. There are cash prizes up for grabs in all races. Biodiversity Signs 🪧 🍃 🌺 : We are delighted with our two new sets of bilingual, biodiversity signs from biodiversityinschools . These signs are now on display in our school grounds.
They feature various different leaves 🍃 and flowers 🌺. The signs are accompanied by a suite of online resources to facilitate outdoor learning experiences for our pupils. The signs are rust proof, anti-fade and anti-glare. They were purchased using funding from our Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) grant from the Department of Education and Youth.
