Gort Education & Training Centre

The Weaving class recently enjoyed a wonderful educational visit to McKernan Woollen Mills, Tuamgraney, Co Clare, to experience a contemporary weaving operation in action. Students were given an in-depth tour of the weaving and knitting process, gaining valuable insight into traditional textile skills, modern production methods, design development, and the importance of sustaining Irish craft heritage.
The day continued with a boat trip across to, Holy Island, (Inis Cealtra),on Lough Derg, where the group visited the final resting place of renowned Co. Clare writer, Edna O Brien. Students explored the island’s rich spiritual and architectural heritage, including its beautiful Romanesque and Gothic church remains, ancient round tower, and peaceful monastic landscape.
The visit also offered an opportunity to appreciate the island’s natural beauty and biodiversity.

🖼 We had an amazing morning last week as our Level 6 Exhibition Techniques class curated an exhibition of work from learners across a number of our creative classes in Gort FET Centre.
🌟 Special thanks to Sinead Macken, local visual artist, who opened the exhibition, to our tutors, to the Hidden Gem for being so accommodating and hosting our exhibition and of course to our learners - we are so proud of your achievements!
