Laoch Living History had another Excellent day in Swans, Curragha, at the Paude O’Donoghue Blacksmith Living History Festival. This year, once again, there were Blacksmiths, and horses, Redcoats, & rebels from 1798 to 1916, in Paude O’Donoghue’s Forge, and in the beer garden, the festival provided a feast of history, local and national, and even the confession box had a ferocious priest.

The festival began with a re-enactment of the arrest of Paude in his forge, followed by a parade to commemorate the links between the Battle of Tara in 1798 and the Battle of Ashbourne in 1916. Laoch Living History also provided a detailed display of weapons, uniforms, and artifacts from the decade of conflict, 1914 to 1923. There were also displays of 1798 artifacts and fascinating demonstrations of the blacksmith's skills.

Thank you to our friends in history, Lord Edwards Own, for being, as ever, the best Baddies in the business. Thanks also to Maria and Tom, who kept the links between the pikemen of Wexford and Meath alive.

A missive thanks and congratulations to Paddy Swan and his staff in Swans, without whom this fantastic Festival would not be possible. Most of all, thank you to everyone who came to see us in Swans, from Curragha, & Ashbourne, Argentina, Dublin & Greece. Canada, Nigeria, the United States, Australia, and many more places, you really made the day special.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year when the pikes will be there together at the Paud O'Donoghues Blacksmith Living History Festival, Swans Curragha.
