This is the gorgeous prize we won last year for our entry into the virtual St. Patrick's day parade. We hope to enter again this year with your support. The theme is "eat, drink and be merry", and I am asking that children who are currently not attending could either photo or video themselves or with family toasting or celebrating with drink or food, my plan is to put it all together with a video of the children who are attending, that way we are all connected and it would be a really fun contribution to the parade. Dress up or embellish any way you want and you can submit videos and/or pictures either here or via WhatsApp 0857062014 or email [email protected]. we don't have a lot of time between now and St Patrick's day so I look forward to seeing your lovely pictures videos as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.

Some useful information for parents...

01/04/2020

I’m sure right about now, many of you are wondering how to keep their children and in particular, pre-schoolers Occupied at home.
With so much emphasis being put on parents “educating” their children at home, I want you to remember that you have always been your child’s first educator and as such they have always learned from you, mostly when you don’t realise it. No time spent as a family is time wasted so try to make this time as positive as possible and create good memories for your children.
They will learn how to manage how they deal with this situation and social isolation from you first and foremost. Give yourself and them the opportunity to talk about how you are feeling and the space to feel those feelings and come up with strategies to cope.
There are plenty of online learning resources to keep your children engaged and occupied, let them start from what they enjoy and build from there and don’t put too much emphasis on achievement, education at this age is about doing not achieving and children learn just as much if not more from the failed attempts. Let them make a mess (within reason) and equally let them help to clean it up!!
For practical tasks everything is fun to young children, so you don’t need lots of expensive equipment. Water play is very popular, and children learn about science through measuring and filling. If you can spare it rice makes a lovely alternative to sand and is easier to clean up, you can easily dye it lots of fun colours too! Pasta is another favourite of mine and children love to play with the quirky shapes. Make play dough or slime or let them mix ingredients to make their own concoctions. Don’t feel guilty if you don’t want to or can’t do messy play activities with your children either, as the clean-up can be daunting and you have to be comfortable with whatever activities you choose and you may not need the additional stress.
Remember everything is a learning curve, let your child help you with your everyday tasks now that time isn’t an issue, cooking, cleaning, tidying not only will teach them valuable life skills but they will learn empathy and a sense of accomplishment. Preparing food, let them weigh, measure, count, all valuable experiential learning. Get the whole family involved in projects like tidying the garden and then you can all enjoy it when it’s done!
Most importantly is try to enjoy this time, I believe there will come a time where we can look back fondly at this extra time with our children, lets try to not have too many regrets about how we spent it.
Finally, if anyone is feeling stressed or needs some support, I am just a phone call away and available to at least listen and if you know anyone experiencing difficulty who need support Galway County Council is coordinating local assistance, call 1800 92 88 94 or 091 509390, or [email protected] 9am-6pm Monday to Sunday.
Thank you for reading and stay safe everyone
Ronnie 😍😍
