The Athlone River Festival is the town’s flagship summer event, celebrating the rich heritage and vibrant community spirit of the River Shannon. Held annually over the August Bank Holiday weekend, the festival features an exciting programme of Viking-themed activities, live entertainment, street theatre, and a variety of on and off water attractions.
Aoife, from the Family Resource Centre, works closely with our Hair and Beauty learners to provide valuable support in preparing for the festival, helping to ensure the event is a memorable success this year. Well done ladies!

Many of the young men from our Engineering Programme took time away from their practical work in the centre to experience the traditional craft and skill of dry stone walling within the local community. The activity was enjoyed by all, and we encourage more young people to get involved in preserving and developing these valuable trades for future generations.
Exciting things are growing at Athlone Community Training Centre!
We are delighted to be creating our very own community garden here at the centre, filled with fresh vegetables, fruit, and plants for everyone in the local area to enjoy and share. Our goal is simple — to bring people together through growing, sharing, and supporting one another in our community.
To help our little garden flourish, we are looking for any spare pots, containers, or planters of all shapes and sizes that you may have lying around at home and no longer need. We need them to replant our baby plants so they can grow strong and produce healthy crops for all to enjoy.
If you would like to donate any pots, please feel free to drop them into the centre.

The Hair and Beauty Department had a wonderful afternoon with the participants of the Irish Wheelchair Association in Athlone, where they enjoyed candle making and afternoon tea together.
As a kind gesture of appreciation, Elaine Kilmartin, who led the group, presented a thank-you gift to three of our fantastic Hair and Beauty students. We are truly grateful for this thoughtful gesture and look forward to spending more time together again in the future.
After completing a 3 day Barista course, a group of our learners are confidently capable of making you a delicious cup of coffee!!!
Here in Athlone CTC, a group of our learners enjoy this 3 day course, where they learn the craft of making coffee!
Here in the centre, we’ve just launched a new course for young people called Sports and Recreation. As part of their induction, learners complete Manual Handling training. One of these learners, Brody Boland, demonstrated for us how to carry out these techniques correctly.
The young women of Athlone CTC had a fantastic day at the beauty show in the RDS Dublin, and they all agreed they learned so much.
As part of STEM, the learners completed an activity in which three groups were challenged to send a cookie from Mullingar to Athlone without it breaking. The twist was that they had to use as little packaging as possible, encouraging a focus on sustainability.
