Meet Kieran Foley, a pianist, a guitarist, and an experienced music teacher.

Having learned piano from a young age, Kieran took up guitar in his early teens and went on to earn degrees in Arts and in Music from UCC as well as a masters in Musicology.

Kieran has taught students of all ages and abilities. He enjoys the challenges of teaching each individual student and derives great satisfaction from their understanding of a new concept or their ability to put new ideas in to practise at their instrument.

As well as teaching he works as a gigging musician in various capacities including solo pianist, rhythm and lead guitarist in bands, accompanist for wedding singers and exam soloists, pianist and band leader for musicals etc.

LEAVING CERTIFICATE MUSIC PAPER 2026.

Overall, both the composition and listening papers were well balanced today. No major surprises within the papers.

COMPOSING:
Melody question 1: Major (E flat major) with an anacrusis, the overall phrase of 4 bar Melody was divided into 2 smaller phrases with the addition of the quaver rest within the melody. An octave range of a melody which could be developed further in the B section. Nothing out of the ordinary for this melody. Easy tempo marking also,

Harmony Question
f harmony, well structured and balanced to find the cadence points, the V7 chord and the first inversion chord was a feature of the opening bars. Nice bassline given to continue also.

Listening paper:
Symphonie fantastique movement 4 as main question. Programme music and example how the composer portrayed is a typical type question that can be prepared before.

A good few definition questions asked. Main questions of compositional and instrumental techniques were asked throughout. Differences from sections asked. Again tables were given to help simplify this type of question.

A really lovely paper. No shocks, no difficult type questions.
