⚠️ Yellow High Temperature Warning Issued for Ireland⚠️

Met Éireann has issued a Yellow High Temperature Warning from 12:00 Tuesday 23rd June until 09:00 Friday 26th June.

Potential impacts include:
🌡️ Heat stress
😴 Uncomfortable sleeping conditions
🏖️ Increased water safety risks

For Early Years and School Age Care Services, now is the time to review your hot weather procedures and ensure appropriate control measures are in place.

Key reminders for services:

1. Review and update heat-related risk assessments, considering:
• Room and sleep room temperatures
• Ventilation and airflow
• Outdoor play areas and shaded spaces
• Hydration arrangements
• Additional supports for babies and medically vulnerable children

2. Ensure children have regular access to drinking water throughout the day.

3. Help keep rooms cool by:
• Opening windows safely to improve airflow
• Using blinds or curtains to reduce direct sunlight
• Using fans safely and in line with risk assessments
• Monitoring room temperatures regularly

4. Encourage light clothing, sun hats, sunscreen (in line with your policy), and shaded outdoor play.

5. Check outdoor areas carefully:
• Assess temperatures of play surfaces
• Avoid prolonged exposure during peak heat
• Increase supervision around water play

6. Monitor sleeping children more frequently, reduce bedding where appropriate, and ensure cots are positioned away from direct sunlight.

7. Watch for signs of heat exhaustion:
• Flushed skin
• Dizziness
• Lethargy or irritability
• Excessive tiredness
• Headaches or nausea

📑 Remember to document temperature monitoring, risk assessments, actions taken, and any communications with families.

Keeping children safe, comfortable, and hydrated during hot weather is an important part of safeguarding their health, wellbeing, and welfare.

💙 Happy Father's Day! 💙

We hope all of you have a wonderful Sunday celebrating the dads and father figures in your lives.

The role of a father is fundamental in early childhood. Fathers and father figures help children build confidence, resilience, a sense of security, and a positive sense of self. Through everyday moments of play, conversation, encouragement, and care, they make a lasting impact on children's development and wellbeing.

Today, we celebrate and thank all the dads, grandads, stepdads, foster dads, and father figures who support, guide, and inspire children every day.

Wishing you all a very Happy Father's Day from everyone at Canavan Byrne. 💙

📢 Providers, Are You Prepared for September Registrations?

With September approaching, many Early Years and School Age Care services are preparing to welcome new children and manage increasing demand for places.

Having a clear and up-to-date Admissions Policy can help ensure a transparent and consistent process for applications, waiting lists, and place allocation, while setting clear expectations for families from the very beginning.

We've put together a short blog exploring why an effective Admissions Policy is so important and how it can support your service.
