Shankar, in the blue T-shirt, sits among friends on his day off—surrounded by bright red chillies and quiet laughter.
Not long ago, his days looked very different.
“BP, sugar—everything was high. I wasn’t really living,” he says.
Then a visit from our health worker led him to our mobile clinic.
With regular check-ups, medication, and support, his health began to improve.
Now, he feels stronger, more active—and more alive. For Shankar,
these chillies are more than just a crop. They’re colour, company, and a sign that life has flavour again.

Women’s Strength Shines in Devanahalli
Overcoming addiction is no easy feat, but 11 women did just that at a 10-day de-addiction camp organised specifically for women by the Community Health Department of Bangalore Baptist Hospital from 21st to 30th August 2024. Despite the challenges of alcohol withdrawal, these women persevered, supported by counselling, motivational talks, health consultations, and daily skill-building sessions.
The camp concluded on an inspiring note with visits from Dr. Spurgeon, Director of Bangalore Baptist Hospital, Mr. Sunny Kurivilla, Associate Director & Head of the Admin Division, and Dr. Carol, HOD of the Community Health Department. They emphasized the crucial role of women in society and the importance of overcoming addiction for the well-being of their families and communities.

Meet Narayanamma, Rangaswamy, Muniyamma and Kempahanumaiah, embracing newfound confidence and joy. Thanks to a generous donor, they've swapped risky wooden sticks for reliable walking sticks. Now, they easily navigate life, visiting neighbours, celebrating the births of newborns of relatives, fulfilling vows at temples, and enjoying heart-to-heart chats under the banyan tree. Notably, 98-year-old Narayanamma, draped in a serene blue saree, continues to tend to cows and goats and could even milk a cow! Stay tuned for their inspiring individual stories!
