“The Story of my experiments with Truth”. Mahatma Gandhiji wrote it in 1925, an autobiography
An author when he frames the title, he spends so much time to word it. The essence of the book will be in the title. For e.g. Audacity of hope, so much weight in the title.

Three words – Story, Experiments, Truth
“Story”
Gandhiji had already written about his struggles in south Africa. Some people asked him to write an autobiography. But one friend asked him “Why do you want to write an autobiography; it is such a western culture. Also may be you will change your mind about the things you have written later in your life. It will really mislead the youth who have followed your book”
Gandhi thought “That makes sense!”
So he didn’t write an autobiography, he just said he would write stories about some principle which he stood for. So, when one reads the book, it is actually a story of something else. And by the way, it also becomes a story of his life, almost an autobiography.
The next word “Experiments “
Was this a casual word, in passing? But with respect to Gandhiji, it could never be casual.
So all his life he did experiments like a scientist. He compares himself to a scientist. A scientist conducts his experiments with utmost accuracy, forethought & attention to details. But he never claims any finality about his conclusions, but keeps an open mind regarding them. “These are the results, to the best of my ability. Maybe it will be different or change later, but for the time being this is the result”.
Gandhiji did the same, for whatever he did, he examined it thoroughly, analysed every psychological situation. But in the end did not claim finality about his conclusion. But he makes one claim, that for that time being, they appear to be absolutely correct & final. If not, he based no action on them.
In his own words he says:-
“But every step has carried out the process of acceptance or rejection. As so long as my acts satisfy my reason & my heart, I must firmly adhere to my original conclusions”.
The next word “Truth”: -
For Gandhi truth was the highest principle. It was not just truthfulness in words, but truthfulness in thought.
Gandhi did not want to write an autobiography. He writes in the introduction of the book, that all his life he only experimented with truth & every page he wants the reader to see that.
He says experiments of truth has no age limit, it could be easily be done by children. In fact, it is easy for children to be truthful & to walk the path of truth. He says once you get the taste of this, you will be so powerful that there is no limit for you. He says the experiments of his life he has written about are just illustrations, he asks the reader to conduct their own experiments based on their nature & capacity.
So, one can become a scientist and start experimenting with life.

Drawing competition was conducted by GOMASU Foundation. Smt Lina & Sri Gopal Mahapatra have been associated with our school since 7 years. They invite eminent guests to give away the prizes. This time we had the privilege of having Smt Hema Ravichandar who gave away the prizes and inspired the students with an interesting talk. Art works by students of art teacher Sri Rudragaud Indi were also displayed
